According to this thread, no other fixes so far really. I too have this problem on win 8, but turning off steam overlay in game seems to reduce the amount of crashing for me.
thanks for the link, i wish i had overlay on to start with, the crashing is almost constant :(

but since a lot of people are crashing i doubt that's the problem. it seems to be a combination of windows 8 or 8.1 with a tf2 update, although i started crashing a couple of weeks before the update.
it's happening like 2-3 times during pugs/scrims omg

Not_MatlockI thought it was working, but after about an hour or so I crashed again with steam closing completely and tf2 not responding. I'm on 8.1 and the instructions on the support site only say XP/Vista/7, so I dunno if it will work for me. I followed them anyway, but I'm still crashing.

that's what's happening! although sometimes tf2 will freeze and i have to ctrl-alt-del to taskmanager.

before the last couple of weeks, i had had tf2 crash only a handful of times in 3-4 years of playing.
now, i'm getting multiple crashes a day, sometimes as consistent as ~1 every half-hour.
any idea what changed? it started before the 05/15 update, and seems to be a bit more frequent on an alt i made a week ago, and i'm kind of wondering if that only made it worse.
any help would be much appreciated!
if you have a tragic.. server, you can re-download their version of metamod (1.10.1-hg876) and sourcemod (1.5.4-hg4051) for the autoinstallers tab in the servercp and it'll work. (at least it did for me)
