The PC was brand new when i bought it.
I've made a mistake though, the model I have has an i5-7400 in it which is an older model and has 4 cores, does that make a difference?

about 3 years ago I bought a complete PC (HP OMEN 880 Intel Core i5-8400 2.8GHz), I'm not too good with computers so some of what I'm saying might be wrong.
My processor is struggling at the moment with running tf2 and other apps at the same time (firefox and spotify), I often need to end processes to play tf2 without lagging hard, I've added more RAM to my PC so thats not a problem.
I've looked at upgrading to a 10th gen i5 processor but I think i need to upgrade my motherboard as well because of the different socket types on my motherboard and the newer i5. Also I don't know if a newer motherboard would fit into my chassis?
I have a budget of £400-£500
If you could help me find a processor that can multitask and run a bit faster, and a motherboard that could hold it that would be great, thanks.

I'd really like to build a new pc in the next couple of days because i've been playing on a laptop for the last 3 years and its starting to die a bit. I'm basically only going to be using it for TF2, CSGO and Photoshop (maybe some games like skyrim). No streaming or Overclocking etc. I have little to no knowledge of which components are best so I really need some help. My budget is £750.
