#31 Femme, please, my heart can't take this... in TF2 General Discussion

I just read through this thread.

I don't see any reason why this was posted. It wasn't even drama. It was some stupidity that occurred over the course of 10 minutes one night in a pug channel and was resolved just as quickly.

LKincheloeYou know... I could probably come up with something witty to say here, but I'll just be blunt:

It's stupid crap that this that makes Highlander the laughing stock of 6s...

Highlander can't be the laughingstock of sixes because highlander isn't part of sixes. I suppose you could say highlander is the laughingstock of competitive TF2, but I'd call you inaccurate there as well since HL has at least 4 times as many players as 6v6. Besides, 6v6 isn't without its own seemingly constant barrage of needless drama.

I still prefer 6v6 to HL though.

#51 invite no more in TF2 General Discussion

I'm so tired of hearing about the "invite circle-jerk" or "invite illuminati".

People seem to think that invite players are somehow different or secluded from the rest of the community and that's just not really the case. There is no illustrious invite aristocracy that is impenetrable by anyone who isn't already in invite. You don't need to walk and talk with the augustness of a king to get our attention and make yourself known. The simple fact is that there are fewer people in invite than in other divisions and most of them have met each other in person on at least one occasion. We're (mostly) all friends and we enjoy playing with one another.

That's not to say that we don't enjoy playing with others or that we're unwilling to invite others to play with us; they're simply not the people we already know and are therefore not our first choices.

Invite pugs are played almost nightly, and more often than not, there is at least one player in the group who isn't in ESEA-I.

Want to make yourself known and eventually be a candidate for a starting role on an invite team? Play IM and do well. Play in invite pugs when the chance comes. Nobody is unwilling to accept new blood in the group; just don't be a dick to everyone once you're there.

Hell, we play with defy and visitor. If that doesn't make it clear that anyone's welcome, I don't know what will.

#35 Cyber Monday Sales in Hardware
eulogy_matterteaWhoever posted the WD Caviar Black 1tb for $87 - its even a deal. I bought mine for around $80 a while ago.
this doesnt make sense.

assuming ur saying it isnt a deal, the WD black generally sits at $120-150 range and drops from time to time to $80-100 range.

You can get a WD black 1tb drive any day of the week for $90.

DrakeMegrimRosewill is just a rebranded Filco; they are made in the same factory. I know a few people who own them and was told the build quality is good.

no
no
no

I don't care what your friends say, these are NOT rebranded Filco keyboards. You might convince me the PCB started out as a Filco, but I doubt even that. Rosewill keyboards are tolerable to use, but they tend to break waaaaaaaaaay sooner than any of the primary brands.

#15 Left Handed Mouse Thread in Hardware

I mouse with my left hand. I've used a variety of mice, but the ones I've liked the best (in no particular order) are:

Zowie AM or Zowie AM-GS
Razer DeathAdder LH
Razer Boomslang CE 2007

I'm sure there are other ambidextrous mice that are fine as well. DeathAdder is probably better if you have large hands, but the Zowie isn't uncomfortable. I like the LH DA and the Zowie AM equally for use, but the Zowie AM seems to be built even more poorly than the Razer product (what??????) unfortunately.

I replaced my Zowie just a few days ago as one of the side buttons was beginning to fail. Not acceptable for a mouse of that cost, but their support is pretty good. I used a lefty DA for 2+ years without a failure, but maybe I was lucky.

my favorite part of this guide aside from the rampant misuse of your/you're and roll/role was the last sentence in its entirety.

#17 i5 or i7 for streaming? in Hardware

I think an i7 is an unnecessary expense. The only real differences between the comparable i5 and i7 processors are that the i7 chips support hyperthreading and have an increase in cache. Hyperthreading doesn't really add anything unless you're running software that is optimized for high thread counts. Hyperthreading does not give you more cores nor does it mimic the performance of extra cores in regular computing.

It could be argued that hyperthreading benefits streaming because video encoding is an instance where extra cores and threads can be utilized, and in the future, that may be true, but an i5-3570k is more than adequate for streaming TF2 at 60 fps in 720p while maintaining 120+ fps in-game.

tl;dr: if you have the dough in your budget to get an i7, go for it as it's certainly not going to hurt anything, but an i5-3570k ivy bridge cpu is adequate if you want to save $100.

#27 you know what really grinds my gears in TF2 General Discussion

I'll go a step further... If I'm actually at my computer and someone messages me saying 'hello' or similar, I'll usually respond. If however I am at work or not around and I come home to see a message saying 'yo' or 'hi' with nothing else, I get annoyed and won't respond.

If you have something to say, then by all means, start with 'hello'. If there's no response in 30 seconds or so, leave your message and let everyone move on.

#23 Being Different in TF2 General Discussion

I use inverted mouse
alt/spacebar to move forward/backward
r/f and d/g to jump/duck and left/right
bind mouse1 +attack2
bind mouse2 +attack
.9" 360
I toggle viewmodels on/off with a bind rather than a config because sometimes I like them and sometimes I don't but it's not dependent upon class or weapon
default crosshairs for every class, but sometimes I play with crosshairs off
no fps config

#13 best fov? in TF2 General Discussion
MitchIt's hard to say what would be the optimal fov if you could pick anything you want over 90. Everything has to get smaller in order to fit on your screen so the higher the fov the harder things become to hit. I generally use 90 but I have mouse 3 bound to fov 70 so i can zoom in(I never really use it though).

Not really accurate. Things look different on your screen, but players aren't harder to hit. Try QL at fov 90, then fov 110 or so... It's different, but not necessarily more difficult.
