What the fuck did that poor woman ever do to you to deserve that?
Biochem and Cell Bio major at UCSD looking towards going into being a pharmacist.
Blazeit, physics throughout college is a whole new monster. I have friends that are physics majors and they pretty much dedicate their lives to it. If you don't mind the demanding workload and if you truly love physics and find it interesting, you should definitely go for it. The best part about physics is when you finally figure out how to solve the problem.
I love watching Froyotech's matches, it's always enjoyable to watch an amazing team play together. I also love TF2 and don't actively think about it as a dying game. The only reason why people will finally hit the last nail in the coffin is if they keep promoting this negative attitude on the forums, in game, on twitch streams, etc. It gets old tbh, and if you still think playing TF2 will generate you profit consistently, then you're shit out of luck. I don't think anyone in ESEA TF2 is really playing for money, but for the love of the game, the experience they have at lan, and the excitement of playing at higher levels. People who want to make money off video games are moving on to bigger, newer games and there's nothing wrong with that.
It's nice that you get defensive and all, but realize that they have it ingrained in their minds that this game is a casual, funny cartoon video game, the exact opposite of an esport. Don't even bother, you can't fix stupid.
What bothered me the most from reading through that whole post was how the cs go players just tossed tf2 aside like some childish game with silly hats and cartoon graphics. They've probably hardly played the game, let alone played it competitively. Everyone sees TF2 as a joke, and it really sucks to see it get trashed like that. It is such a fun, rewarding game and it does not deserve to be shit talked by a bunch of ignorant nerds on a forum.
I think what is most important with maximizing your damage is consistently keeping pressure on the enemy team with pipes and sticks when holding chokes. You always want to be dealing damage to the other team so that they find it difficult to push into your team. Mid-fights can either go really well or really shitty for demoman, so that shouldn't be where your damage really comes from. I personally like playing demoman on the defensive because it keeps you alive and gives you the opportunity to constantly put out damage until you are able to push with your med+pocket+scout, or whatever your combo is, safely. Demo is an easy class to pick and unless you have amazing accuracy, try to avoid going super aggressive. Staying alive is always the best course of action as it gives you more time to keep their team damaged which effectively maximizes your damage numbers. Find a play style that works for you because what will really get you to the higher levels is figuring out how you can play your best, not limiting yourself to what other people tell you.
EDIT: Scratch all of that, apparently the key to getting good damage is not putting out good spam and staying alive, boy have I been playing this class wrong.
So, we're second to last: http://play.esea.net/teams/93287
Honestly, we've been so used to doing so well in UGC matches and scrims that this is entirely new to us and we're not sure how to handle it. Every match is an 0-5 roll. I think we've finally realized our team has no idea how to play real competitive TF2. Are we improving? We don't seem to find much team to scrim and go over demo reviews together because of school and work so that's probably an indicator of a probably not. ESEA takes up a lot more time than UGC because of the whole two matches a week and increased number of scrims. No one really wants to sacrifice their priorities to play TF2 and that's completely understandable. We're just gonna keep feeling this season out and hopefully later get matched with teams our skill so we can have maybe a couple good games. The only reason why we're not breaking up as a team is because we're all really close IRL friends. Also, ESEA servers suck and hopefully will be fixed soon because they're not making it any better lol.
I play demo and the demo nerf also was unhelpful. Our combo was our main powerhouse and it doesn't feel the same anymore.
I agree that the transition is hard and most likely the main cause, UGC to ESEA is a big step and that was a big problem for our team, but I'm sure there's also some cheap people out there who just don't feel like dropping $15 to play TF2 competitively. I know a couple myself :P
Hey Cook! I appreciate you for doing this for those players who were unsure of going into ESEA, or could not pay their fees. I added you to discuss the possibility of supporting us. Thanks again! Also, I was considering taking you up on your offer bl4nk, unless you already filled on the two teams.
