Hi I believe u actually confused the question "why no desktop" with the superficially related question "wouldn't you rather have a desktop?" The second question would actually be obsolete because of the information in the original post, whereas the second one actually inquires about something that was not presented in the post! The information being asked is actually evident from the interrogative particle "why": The question aims the motivations that led to the OPs brother's desire for a laptop instead of a desktop! The point in asking is to gain new knowledge on the topic I just described!

Dougthe301stspartanWhy no desktop?Depending on your lifestyle, sometimes laptop is worth the price. For example, doing a PhD I have no idea if an opportunity to work during the thesis in another city (or even country) won't happen in the near future. Also, after finishing it I might have to work in temporary positions, so more moving around.

I understand a gaming laptop can be too expensive comparing to a desktop if you have a fixed home and job, but sometimes your lifestyle demands you that you pay a little more for the comfort.
