Sure, languages eventually evolve to accept common misuses, but until it does, they are indeed incorrect.
But this happens long before a majority of everyone using the word use it "incorrectly".
A small gaming community could misuse the word most of the time, without the total population of the world misusing it most of the time. Your point assumes that the gaming community is then imprinting its definition on the wider world.
No that's not what I'm trying to say, I was only replying to
It's just one word in a long list of words that are so frequently misused that they become somewhat accepted, like 'literally' and 'hacker' or 'hacking'.
which implies that a word can be "misused" so much it becomes accepted but still be incorrect despite being accepted.
In terms of tf2 only, I don't actually see how the word is being misused/ used differently than in any other esports, personally, I haven't seen anyone use it any differently in regards to tf2..?
Osiristhe301stspartan[...] words ending in "ship" never describe a person.Lordship.
I think he just looked up the definition of censor instead of censorship.
I knew someone would say this, but "Lordship" is used in conjunction with "his/her/your" only, so I'm pretty sure that from a linguistic point of view, the word actually refers to the lordship (land) the lord controls. You'll never read "This person is a lordship". Offtopic tho
how do you get constant 289 fps?
It's not possible for a word to be misused most of the time. Language doesn't work that way.
But you are, because you're saying that a word is being misused most of the time it's used, which is always wrong, in regards to any word in any context.
Also the usage in tf2 completely agrees with the usage anywhere else, "metagame" refers to strategies and counterstrategies and ways the game is played that are dictated by rules that stem from experience in high level play as opposed to the actual rules of the game. It literally means "the game behind the game".
Honestly, I'd like to throw the dictionary at everyone who uses the word "meta." Or maybe not. Meta means making reference to oneself
This is also bullshit, meta means "beyond" or "after" and is used to descibe something that's an abstraction or derivative of something else that adds to or completes the original thing.
Censorship - a person who examines books, movies, letters, etc., and removes things that are considered to be offensive, immoral, harmful to society, etc.
idk where you got that bs definition from, but words ending in "ship" never describe a person. Whatever your personal definition of censorship, or "reverse self-censorship" may be, this is not what the word means.
I don't think you fully understand the concept of censorship.]
Just so you know I'm okay with people ignoring what they consider moronic, except filtering those opinions so they are "protected" from seeing them is not the same as just ignoring them. As people have pointed out, it's completely childish.
People have also "pointed out" that you are a retard, does that make it true? There is absolutely nothing childish about hiding shitposts.
Your main reason for using this would be to avoid having a discussion with the other person. Not wanting to engage with the person is fine. You know the solution to not engaging? Ignoring. And like I said, actively going out so you can't even see those posts is different from ignoring them.
Ignoring post = you don't see the post
Hiding post = you don't see the post and have to scroll less
And then there's your analogy. Based on the person used in the example, I'm going to assume this was made for filtering out users with a history of political opinions.
You are not supposed to judge people based on assumptions. Yours is also completely random and pointless.
I'd understand why people wouldn't want to see ads, especially when they don't want a website to gain money from ads. Are political opinions that detrimental?
It's not up to you to judge what's "detrimental" to others and what isn't-
but I just saw this as a slippery slope for admins deleting whatever they deem as "offensive."
Wat? Admins can already do this, they are free and have every right to delete any post they deem offensive according to the tos of the forums, or even ones that aren't if they wish.
This app has nothing to do with admins and what they can or can't and should or shouldn't do whatsoever.
-fish-shouldn't the ability to hear and understand other arguments be considered morally superior as opposed to censoring content just because you personally don't like it?
Censoring means making others unable to read the content. Not reading content you don't want to read is called horse sense.
and i've somehow "created" this? i might have posted things you don't agree with, but people having different opinions has and will always be a thing.
Just like ignoring opinions you consider moronic and a waste of screen space will always be a thing-
if someone says something with bad arguments, telling them that it's a bad argument and not explaining why does nothing of value.
which is a case in point for ignoring a shitpost rather than telling the poster it's shit and being dragged into an offtopic discussion about a shitpost that has nothing to do with the thread.
if your argument has weight, you should be able to defend it. explain to them why it's wrong instead of filtering them. censorship is a universally bad thing and in this case, it will lead to a horrible community.
You don't understand the concept of censorship and are getting mad over people saving themselves the time to read bad posts. By your logic, adblocking is censorship, because you should really write open letters to the advertising companies instead, full of reasonable arguments grounded in the most solid aristothelean logic explaining why you don't like their advertisements.
You are trying to restrict people in their freedom to filter content that takes away from their enjoyment of the forums and in the same breath call them out for supporting censorship.
Your logic is flawed and hypocritical.
MubbyI can't wait to see people use this on me.
but you won't ever see it or know if they are
If all it changes is two icons, and the icons don't work properly with it, what actually are your "reasons" for using it?
