There's usually a competitive section and a casual play section. It's pretty much first come first serve on seating. Maybe nick can do something for us this time with advanced seating but I suggest getting there early.
You missed me on the list freakin. I'm going.
Flying with your PC is never a good idea. It has been done, with varying amounts of success. I bought myself a gaming laptop (120hz woo!) since I travel for LANs at least a few times per year. If I were you I'd pickup a laptop if you can afford it (and especially if you think you would want to travel for LANs in the future). If that's not an option see if you have any friends who are driving to the LAN if they have an extra PC you can borrow.
If you must fly with your PC, here are a few things I've seen work in the past:
For the first big GXL, my friend Thursday took his PC apart and repacked the components into their original boxes, and took them as his carry on. I had an extra case and we rebuilt his system in my extra case when he got here.
For one of the Atlanta LANs thrickster was able to fit his whole tower inside his carry on bag. I'm pretty sure he packed the inside of the tower with clothes and towels for added protection.
NEVER check your PC. Have you ever seen how the guys handle luggage at the airport???
I've always wanted to check out quakecon but it's too far for me to justify going, especially considering I don't play quake much anymore.
$500 to watch a bunch of nerds play dota for a week, and then getting to meet them?
The fuck...
Ok my mind has been changed. Ill be at GXL. My 17th (and probably final) LAN.
neroKhakiyesnerobe fluffyanimals and always keep a stopwatch on handIf more medics had the voice of fluffyanimals, I think there'd be less shitlord ragers in tf2
fluffy ftw
Thanks. It was a little tricky to do. There are guides on how to take it apart for painting, but all the rewiring after looked annoying, so I took it mostly all the way apart, and used plastic bags and blue painters tape to cover everything I didn't want to get paint on (basically just the guts). A few coats of black over a few days, sealed with clear coat.
I used a razer carcharias for a long time, and honestly it was pretty good (I still use it for lans). Name brand "gaming" headsets can be good, but even the best ones aren't quite worth the money.
I picked up the Audio Technica AD700s on sale for $99 last year. FANTASTIC set of cans. It wasn't until I tried a set of real headphones that I heard just how poor all the others sounded by comparison. My suggestion is to pick up a real set of headphones (get the AD700s if you can find them). Add a modmic or the zalman clip on mic. Here's a list of what I got.
AD700s - $99
Modmic - $30
Asus Xonar DG soundcard/amp - $30
3.5mm stereo plug (rewired mine) - $5
Cable braid & heat shrink (sleeved my cable & mic wire) - $10
1 can matte black spray paint $5
1 can of clear coat $5
(Had to paint it, pink/beige is a horrible color scheme)
End result: best headset I've ever had
vilei feel like joe died too early. a lot of room for crazy shit with that character.
Wait until the bring Neegan in. Dude makes the governor look like something out of a Disney movie.
