lighthousewarriordragon12lighthouseyeah the bass ive been using for like 10 years now is a squier j bass that i had set up professionally to get a bit of a better sound and play out of it but im probably going to want to leave a bass at my bands studio so i dont have to transport it, which means its time to upgrade lol.
problem with the squier i have to stretch my hands really far and its pretty tough to play fast as i expect ill have to do soon, so i want something that i can play really quickly. do you recommend american/mexican/japanese fenders or does it not matter?
i have a usa j bass and its wonderful and i highly reccomend it. you can find mexican ones that play better than certain american ones so strongly suggest you go to a guitar center or something and try a bunch out.
as far as comfort playing its definitely way easier to play a j bass than a p bass because the neck is thinner and ive always felt it doesnt matter what youre playing, a j bass can do it jsut fine
for metal specifically though fanned frets can be nice if you drop tune a lot
nah i dont drop tune a lot, but yeah because of just how many factors there are that affect how the bass sounds and plays im thinking of just going into a music shop and just playing a whole bunch of basses to help me decide if there are any features that i would want/not want. or maybe i should just stop worrying about all that and just buy a fender ._.
edit i say "just" a fuckin lot lmfao
i am a devout follower of the church of the fender jazz bass
throw some la bella deep talkin strings on there and you will be good to go for as long as you live
SirBlitzkriegwarriordragon12NEED ENVELOPE FILTER RECCOMENDATIONSMXR makes a pretty good one.
If you're in the market for some dirt, the Darkglass B7k Ultra is a monster, and I've heard good things about their Alpha-Omega as well.
Also, how has no one mentioned Wojtek Pilichowski yet?
