#26 FPS boost by disabling steamwebhelper in TF2 General Discussion
catman1900I think the library is browser based now

Correct. The -no-browser launch option will prevent your libraries from loading now, but it is still the only way to stop steamwebhelper from loading.

Personally I'm still using it, as you can still launch the game from the notification tray. If I want to browse the steam store, I use firefox for that anyway.

#8 Model Removal Pack 2019 in Customization

When I extracted the vpk and compared it to the old one, it seems half the files are missing.

Are they not needed anymore, or should I be copying all of the files over to this new version?

Any must-watch games from this event? I haven't had time to watch any yet.

#1796 mastercomfig - fps/customization config in Customization

Just curious why the changelog says "Optimized particles", but the "ConVar.cl_particle_retire_cost" "0.0001" has disappeared from dxsupport_overide? Was it not working?

#91 Cheating to hear spies is painfully easy. in TF2 General Discussion
ComangliaEdit2

Someone ping me in 30 days, I'll explain to everyone exactly what file it is, where to put it, how to add/change volume of basically every sound in the game.

Oh and Fun Fact. This file is blocked by the pure settings in CSGO.

You've been pinged

#1643 mastercomfig - fps/customization config in Customization
zfnI've been having issues with the in-game voice chat. It keeps cutting in and out for all players. Any ideas as to which commands affect this? I'm using the sound_high from 6.8.0.

I didn't realise you've released a 6.10, I'll test that and get back to you.

Also why are so many commands missing in 6.10 compared to 6.8? Are they just not needed now?

6.10 didn't fix my issue, and sound_low makes it worse. I can't pinpoint which command is responsible either.

That didn't work for me, instead I downloaded the other setup.exe file (instead of web-setup) and that seems to have worked.

"Your internet connection seems to be not permitted or dropped out! Please reconnect and click retry to continue installation."

I was on 6.8 previously, and decided to try the latest release today. Tried running as administrator, and clicking retry does nothing. Any suggestions?

I thought preloading didn't work for particles

Again, while I think the whole machine-learning thing sounds really fucking cool, I'm still really doubtful about the whole thing, and I want to raise certain key areas which others may not feel like expressing due to the overwhelming number of survey participants, but lack of forum replies. And just to add this disclaimer: there is no hate or spite here from me, more just confusion over anything else and seeking answers.

mastercomsHello everyone! After having a great discussion with the community about mastercomfig+

Where has this discussion taken place, or was that sarcasm? Only myself and Zetos have replied to this thread, both expressing uncertainty in the idea, plus your survey of 106 responses at the time of this post are negative. 68.9% of people said they wouldn't be open to subscribing to mastercomfig+, not to mention the16% maybe and 2.8% don't know. That's 87.7% of 106 people who are against/uncertain to the idea.

Another issue I'd like to raise is that dummies like myself still don't really understand the whole idea, so along with the survey results, I don't think you've really sold the community on what you're trying to achieve here. What is machine learning? How does it work? How exactly will that be used here? What sort of performance impact will it have on my game, if it is gathering data specific to my system? What sort of performance boost would I be expecting to obtain from all of this? Would this all be included in the .exe file, or will that be a separate download? What sort of data is being collected? Have I misunderstood the idea completely? I still have many more questions, and I only have one or two very short sentences by yourself to go by. And as you're the salesperson, I can't say I'm sold yet.

What exactly will the difference be between the paid version and the free version? If we set aside cvars which are mostly personal preference (decals, props, gibs, ragdolls, ropes, effects, sound, lighting, shadows, post processing, character visuals etc etc), what exactly will mastercomfig+ be suggesting to improve performance that we don't already know thanks to your efforts so far?

If the number of people subscribing is lower than you originally thought, how long will you maintain the project for?

Finally I'll be blunt - I have no intention of using mastercomfig+, but I appreciate your efforts and enthusiasm for this 10 year old game. Nevertheless, will I be able to donate a single lump sum of money your way, instead of seeing -$2.70's on my bank statement each month?

#1510 mastercomfig - fps/customization config in Customization
mastercomsHowever, this is primarily just supposed to be a donation (which a lot of people expressed wanting to do), so I think it's good to consider that instead of just the raw benefit.

I'd be more than happy to throw a donation your way or something like that if you had a donation link set up, but I'd rather that be a one-time payment rather than a monthly fee for exclusive benefits.

mastercomsIt wouldn't be hindering anything the app could provide as it wouldn't be feasible to maintain this as a non-paid service.

What sort of costs would be involved in setting something like this up?

#1506 mastercomfig - fps/customization config in Customization

While the whole machine learning thing sounds pretty cool, I think it's clear from the survey that the majority of players aren't interested in paying for a config.

All I want in a config is to remove as much visual clutter as possible, and a nice performance boost, which I can already do thanks to the efforts yourself and others before you have put in. Paying a monthly fee just to "fine-tune specific values" just seems a little unnecessary and over the top in my opinion.

#15 FPS boost by disabling steamwebhelper in TF2 General Discussion
osvaldoHas anyone teste how sizeable the performance gain are ?

Benchmarks using the standard benchmark1.dem file:

Round 1:

Steamwebhelper enabled:
2639 frames 13.974 seconds 188.85 fps ( 5.30 ms/f) 10.409 fps variability
2639 frames 14.190 seconds 185.97 fps ( 5.38 ms/f) 10.471 fps variability
2639 frames 14.101 seconds 187.15 fps ( 5.34 ms/f) 10.295 fps variability

Steamwebhelper disabled:
2639 frames 12.360 seconds 213.52 fps ( 4.68 ms/f) 16.281 fps variability
2639 frames 12.353 seconds 213.64 fps ( 4.68 ms/f) 14.568 fps variability
2639 frames 12.405 seconds 212.74 fps ( 4.70 ms/f) 16.222 fps variability

This seemed completely ridiculous, so I tried again. It may have been because I had just started my computer, and something was running in the background, I have no idea.

Round 2:

Steamwebhelper enabled:
2639 frames 12.441 seconds 212.12 fps ( 4.71 ms/f) 16.530 fps variability
2639 frames 12.395 seconds 212.92 fps ( 4.70 ms/f) 14.266 fps variability
2639 frames 12.454 seconds 211.89 fps ( 4.72 ms/f) 14.425 fps variability
Average: 212.31

Steamwebhelper disabled:
2639 frames 12.433 seconds 212.25 fps ( 4.71 ms/f) 16.345 fps variability
2639 frames 12.333 seconds 213.98 fps ( 4.67 ms/f) 14.650 fps variability
2639 frames 12.414 seconds 212.58 fps ( 4.70 ms/f) 14.128 fps variability
Average: 212.94

Final thoughts:
Please note that these benchmarks were taken as soon as steam (and TF2) loaded, however many users report sluggishness with steamwebhelper happening over time. Therefore I feel that these results poorly reflect the impact that disabling the steamwebhelper actually provides.

Also since I was curious, I decided to benchmark steamwebhelper disabled, but Firefox open with 5 tabs (which is essentially the same thing):
2639 frames 12.468 seconds 211.66 fps ( 4.72 ms/f) 17.146 fps variability

I'd appreciate some more feedback!

Does the "-particles" launch option still exist for TF2?
