They added a volume changer!!!
Hey all, we've finally figured out an issue that seems to crop up when launching drafts. Simply put, our random selection library sometimes fails to pick captains properly (certain captains, due to their current captain score, tend to trigger the issue).
I've submitted a pull request to fix the issue, but until it's merged in or otherwise addressed, be aware that the issue may continue to crop up. A known workaround is having more than two captains added, so if the issue does happen other people can try adding up to get the game up and running.
Many apologies for the issue. We hope that it will get fixed soon.

IMO it'd be a good idea to have it automatically ban the maps that were just played, instead of (or in addition to) the random map bans. Would prevent people from having to do two metalworks pugs in a row (and help add more variety, which seems to be the whole point of random bans)
Just an update of where we stand: we've been working hard and resolving most of the outstanding issues. As a result, we'll be once again looking to push into open beta in the next week.
If you have any suggestions or concerns that you don't think we've properly addressed, now is the time to bring them up! We'd like the beta launch to be the best that it can possibly be.

crossfireany chance you could work with tf.tv to implement PugChamp on the tf.tv portal/sidebar? make it possible to see who all is playing / ability to add up via tf.tv

Hey all, just a status update for this weekend. The site has not crashed in the past week, and we've been making fixes for the minor issues that we've encountered, so we think the site is stable enough for beta.
What's holding us back right now are resources (of all kinds, including items). If you think you could help out, please be sure to get in touch.
Of course, another reminder: ratings will be rest from alpha to beta, but there is something for top players in alpha, so be sure to keep climbing the ranks. Happy gaming!

saamWhy did you change the pugs to euro config?
We have always had a 2 round win difference since we started. We also made our own whitelist based on feedback from the survey we had.
Edit: you can see it here: http://whitelist.tf/pugchamp

To expand on the ruleset a bit: the games are run with a win difference of 2 and a minimum score of 5. What this means is that a team can win if they reach five rounds unless the score reaches 4-4, at which point a team must lead by two to win. This doesn't affect winning when the time limit expires - if the 30 minutes are up and a team is leading 5-4, they will still receive a win. The idea is to extend close, high-scoring games instead of ending them when a team hits five. It hasn't been a very common occurrence so far.
These win conditions are good but nobody is used to it and tons of people don't know that's how it works (and some funny things have happened because of this) so I wish there was somewhere that it was very prominently displayed so people were aware.
played some of my first pugs today, awesome experiance and there are alot of cool features on the site. Keep up the good work!
pls use the esea whitelist or at the very least ban the tomislav
with the current map picking system, one team gets a extra map ban, to even this out possibly bring in a old map a-la strawpoll and switch it out every week or month so that atleast the map bans are even.
was playing some pugs last night and someone threw out the idea of bringing viaduct into the pool
via pugs are really really fun as long as nobody goes sniper, but the first person to go sniper usually causes a domino effect. if via were to be put into the pool would it be possible to have a different class limit just for via pugs where no off classes would be allowed?

I'm not sure that flat out banning sniper would be the best solution, but we will start enforcing offclassing rules more strictly to avoid issues.
As far as maps go, the plan is to generally have nine maps in the global PugChamp map pool: seven established and two experimental. How we'll be choosing the experimental maps is still being figured out, but Product will be one of the established maps since it is played globally.

if you're including only 7 established maps and one of them is product, don't tell me you're removing metalworks? even though its not played worldwide metalworks is IMO 100x better than product in pugs

Metalworks will probably be one of the "experimental" maps since it's only played in North America. We weren't planning on removing it entirely.

on other maps sniper can be annoying, but via is borderline broken with a sniper and it sure as hell isnt fun to play against.
the issue with it is the second one person goes sniper a person on the other team will go sniper and its just an endless cycle

I agree with you but I'd just like to point out that though sniper is undeniably strong on viaduct, It's far more effective against unorganized pug teams (which is why you don't see literally every invite team using a full time sniper on via week).
Though they both are ludicrously good scout maps in their own ways, IMO viaduct is definitely more fun to play in pugs than for reckoner, for example, but I would argue that there definitely is a place for offclassing. That's not to say that you should be able to play full time sniper even if your team is losing and asks you to switch off, but things like heavy and sniper are definitely strong for the team holding the point and shouldn't be banned altogether. Definitely agree with tsc as far as better enforcing offclassing rules (to prevent things like this from happening), I think that there should be separate offclassing rules for koth maps like viaduct. For example if your team has had the cap for the entire round maybe it is okay for you to continue to play sniper all game if it's proven to be effective, whereas even if you are rolling in a 5cp map it's generally considered to be BM to run an offclass all game. In mumble lucrative has argued that it doesn't matter so long as you're winning, but in my experience a lot of the time the losing team will just give up because it doesn't want to play against whatever gay offclass there is. I don't think that sniping to mid (especially on the last round of the game or in an already less serious pug) is the biggest deal in the world, compared to sniping the entirety of the game.
tldr: offclass rules need to be rethought for koth maps

heavy to mid is a perfectly viable strategy that i have utilized in esea intermediate matches

pretty sure platinum played an entire invite game as huntsman sniper (and won)
does that mean I should be able to play huntsman sniper all game in a pug?

Yeah you should be able to if you're winning, and your team doesn't care that it's taking longer than it should. If you do this and you're losing then you're retarded.
Who the fuck cares if you tilt the other team? They were obviously bad. You can't complain if you're losing to dumb shit like this, get good. Don't enforce rules that stop people using entertaining or even actually good strategies just because the losing team is bad and might tilt. Get a grip people.

Hey all,
It seems like we're continually delaying it, but the beta for PugChamp is right around the corner - everything's freshly set up thanks to our many supporters and sponsors! Right now, we are currently discussing solutions to the issues we've spotted in beta, particularly those that will affect the Pro League as it launches and integrates into the overall hierarchy.
To that end, we'd like to gather people into a Discord where it's easier to discuss these types of issues and more. If you're interested, you can use this invite link to join: https://discord.gg/0toxQuQd0nLHy3NY
We hope that everyone's been enjoying the new betas that have popped up this weekend and are excited to bring out our own very soon. Thanks to everyone for your support, and happy gaming!
