This was ~5 hours before day 2 started, and you can be damn sure there were way more when it started up. I meant to tweet this to him and thank him but went afk and forgot, but here; thanks Star & stabby.

On phone so I'll leave my own feedback later, but basically, good job was fun.

The event was amazing, I only managed to watch it on Saturday. Those kids will be definitely happy!

Maybe I haven't been in the tf2 scene long enough, but it seems to me that this fundraiser was the BEST thing the community has ever done, period. $35,000 is a ridiculous amount of money. Having 100% of that go to a charity that helps kids? Everyone involved should be tremendously proud, especially those who donated extraordinary amounts.

My personal highlight was the highlander show-match with Admirable casting. The jokes mixed with intermittent groans as Admirable's bank account was being robbed of its contents by the charity -- combined with the dynamic EU/NA casting and match situation -- was just great. Admirable, you are one funny guy.

That and the flawless surf runs had me tuning in for a good 3 hours on Saturday.

I'm not saying anything that was done was bad - but it could always be better.

1. Focus more on MGE, Surfing, Jumping, prop hunt, show matche (the most popular/memorable) events. The pugs were fun, but at times, it was just the casters having to cast a game who's quality was pretty low and they weren't that interested in, and couldn't be. In the future we should try to get some more scrims or something of that nature going as well. Maybe it's a question of getting volunteers for their time? If so my apologies. We could also re-cast games from the past since we had so much casting star power on.

2. It sounds really craven, but we need to push our community more - the AGDQ plug each individual's stream, as well as the various streaming websites. It was a pretty solid advert for tf.tv, but there's so much else that we could advertise too. The next time around we need to reach out to all the pub communities - run ads for them during down time, same goes for tragic, iT, CEVO, ESEA, UGC, and other stuff like that. We get free advertising for the community, access to more resources, *and* help out a good cause - it's the whole point and hopefully we made an impression, but we can do a better job the next time around. A bigger fundraiser that incorporates more communities means more money for da' kids too (or whatever other worthy cause that might get chosen in the future).

3. Help truk truk by getting another streamer or 2 or 3 - especially so we can run content over 12 hours by way of showing old stv's of matches, or frag videos or *anything*. I'm sure if we poked around we could find people that would do it even if they're not into the comp. community.

4. Reach out to other communities for their support (this was done this time around too - but again we can do better) especially other ESEA games.

5. Plan 1 event that needs things donated towards it in order for it to happen - for example x amount of money forces rain to do a surf map backwards. ADGQ does that quite successfully. It gives people who don't want hats or to write silly names on the stream something to look forward to. We could also have a low level pug where some or one of the pros is forced to play medic blind-folded or any other thing like that. Admirable managed to capture that and look at how successful it was :D

Just suggestions for next time around :D On the whole it got WAY more money and was much more successful and cleanly run than I expected (especially the money - I never expected anything close to what was raised). Huge kudos to everybody who organized and made this happen. You all deserve endless praise.

i49 is waiting to make a timing push in conjunction with the ESEA LAN finals. :) A lot of people are waiting to donate to a confirmed team.

Seems like people's suggestions in this thread already make a lot of sense; more cameras to take the load off of truktruk (holy crap dude), more manpower for publicity, especially reaching pub groups (there are a ton). A special exclusive message for a "gold" level sponsorship would probably entice them to donate a bit more than average.

Overall, Tip of the Hats was absolutely exceptional. It's amazing that that much was raised for charity in such a short amount of time. Absolutely astounding.

Just want to add as well that the way the whole donation scheme was set up really boosted donation counts in my view, even if you didn't donate exclusivly for the kids you still had the incentive of trying your luck for some items, or even play around with the stream widget that showed the text you wanted. It definitly gave space for some "creativity" :D and a much bigger donation influx in my opinion.

Props to everyone who donated the items for the raffles and auctions.

Having the recent donor name on screen was great. Sure, it was inappropriate at times, but the amount I spent on $4.20/$1.00 donations with silly names was almost equal to my 'real' donation.

small recommendation, but put up a few of the "highlights" that would be pretty (in theory) to edit and put them up on a Tip of the Hats YouTube channel

posting it on your "own" channel will both get some interest and will drive users on reddit/tf.tv/etc to a central hub in the future for other stream highlights/events.

it will also answer the question i have seen a bunch of places that lameFX has tried to answer regarding if VODs of events will be up anywhere. can just post the 2 songs + a quick 2 or 3 sentence update --> post to here, r/tf2, r/truetf2 and elsewhere on the internet...

Thanks for the suggestions! This thread is already bookmarked for when we start planning the next one. As far as highlights go we need to make sure the more important things get done first:
1. Get the money to One Step Camp
2. Get the items to the winners

After that (which should probably take less than a week) I'll post a thread asking for memorable moments and make a huge highlight video. Based whiskerbiscuit already made the tipofthehats YouTube channel in which we'll post the highlight video along with the individual vods of each event.

What would help with a quicker turnaround of the highlights production is having someone dedicated solely to keeping track of events while the charity is happening (ie he/she would keep exact time markers).

Can't wait for the next one, this was fantastic and there is so much potential for growing it to further heights next time.

The event was better and more well run than some "professional" charity events and such. It was so much fun to watch and play in, and I'm glad that it turned out as well as it did.

As for that, I think it was good that they did viewer matches and stuff, as it encourages people to donate more and get their few minutes on stream. Also, to keep it exciting and fun, have the players yell and scream and get pumped up whenever the focuses come onto the comms. ;)

Remember, in the end it's about having fun and entertaining.
