why would you post that jaguar lol
Posted on CEVO, hopefully I will get a response.
I see two huge issues with scheduling this season, while they both have already been said, I still want to clarify.
1) 6PM west is far too early for a match. While ESEA standard was 10:30est maybe too late for some, pushing it an hour and a half earlier than what most people are used to is pretty crazy. Other than catering to those that have a 10 bedtime, I fail to understand the logic behind the default time across all time zones. 6PM west, people wouldn't even be home from work yet. From a TF2 POV, most teams don't even start scriming until 930est.
2) Ignoring match comms for day/time of match in order to get a FFW. Say my team wants to play at 10:30 est on Thursday. While I understand that it maybe late for 10 people within TF2, the other team could say something and we could meet in the middle. This is what happens in ESEA. But this is what can/does happen in CEVO. They say nothing in match comms and do not respond to the request, or say something 30 mins before the match. That means my team, that is actively attempting to find a good day/time for both teams, now has to be free on BOTH DAYS/TIME. A system that allows a team to ignore proposed times can, and will, be used to get FFWs.

We don't give FFW's everyone gets rescheduled.
I feel this way punishes teams who actually show up to play their matches.
Now I am really confused about two different people saying two different things.
In this instance, when the deadline is reached we will look at which team made the effort to schedule and play the match. If one team did not make any effort whatsoever, they will be given a FFL.
This means that we will try and reschedule that week's match as best we can.
We apologize for the inconvenience of other team's not being responsive, but this isn't something we can force.
Let us know if you have anymore questions about this,
Regards
CEVO|MrSoker
and then
Anyways, I just wanted to address your posts specifically and let you know that we are listening and are preparing to make changes before our next season. In the mean time, everyone should remember that unless there is a CONFIRMED match time in the match communication thread, the match is automatically scheduled for the default time/day of the division.
Thanks,
CEVO|Pipher
Does this mean if the other team says nothing to a request and just shows up and attempts to get the FFW, it will be overturned to a FFL? Then shouldn't Jags match be overturned? (I will admit that I just quickly looked at the paste log, so I maybe wrong)

When you get a FFW in CEVO they just remove that match and make you play another team.

No, if the match is set at the default time we determine who should get the forfeit based on check-ins to the website only. Soker must have meant that if a team makes so effort to schedule and no one checks in to the match, the team who made the best effort to schedule will receive the forfeit win.
SleepingLifeWhen you get a FFW in CEVO they just remove that match and make you play another team.
Yes, when you receive a forfeit win in CEVO we automatically schedule you a makeup match against another team who also received a forfeit win in that round.
wrechedddddI feel this way punishes teams who actually show up to play their matches.
The teams who receive forfiet losses are not rescheduled and that FFL is on their team record for the remainder of the season. So really the only teams who are getting punished are the ones who don't show up for their matches. The teams who are rescheduled, are just not being awarded a free win for a match they didn't actually play.

Pipher will you please address why the default match time is set at 6pm pst? It is very difficult to make that match time for a lot of people, and it is a full 1.5 hours earlier than what the community has been traditionally used to. Why was that time selected? Can this be changed ASAP?

Hey Pipher, thanks for keeping up with the forums.
Can I ask what the reasoning is behind this policy? While I agree that it makes sense to play a match at the default day/time if teams can't reach an agreement, there's still the issue of not knowing when to play. While it's possible to have people available at the default match time, it's a bit ridiculous that teams can make you wait until the default time rolls around for you to know if you're going to play or not.

Traditionally we've had a very small number of players in CEVO playing in the Pacific time zone relative to the amount in the Central and Eastern US time zones. We set up the default times in National conferences to accommodate the majority of our user base. In some of our larger games we have multiple conferences with different default times in the same division, so that you're always playing against teams from your time zone. In TF2's case, this isn't really possible due to the # of teams.
From what I can gather TF2 teams seem to prefer to play their matches later than our other games, this may have to do with the average age or location of the players. Anyways, like I said in one of my other posts, we're going to revisit the actual default time for default matches in Season 5 based on the data we're currently collecting in Season 4.

This is something that we're hoping to address in Season 5. If we were to introduce something like the automatic accepting of proposals without a response after X number of hours, this wouldn't be an issue.

I believe he was asking more on why default time can't be changed ASAP. I honestly believe that this can, especially during playoffs, be used to force teams to FFL or use backups more often. Thus giving teams that use this an unfair advantage.
To put this into TF2 perspective, it's sometimes difficult to find a scrim at 9est, almost impossible any earlier than that.
Edit- Even if you put up a poll, I am 99% that a majority of TF2 players would want a later default time.

Speaking of Central/Eastern can we please please please have a way to set EST/EDT as your preferred timezone on your account

Typically, we play our matches 9cst/10est/7pst. I hope I got all the time zones correct. But that should be right...
But I idk why people are having to do so many ffw's. I make sure to add the captains and talk out times. I have yet to have a problem fitting in teams into a week while doing both CEVO and ESEA. Sure I've had problems with some captains. But that's life... I refuse to take a ffw before I exhaust all possible options to play. I wish other captains thought that way but what ev's.
Next up, SYOPS takes 2 ffl's.... rofl... fml.

We already had two teams not respond to a proposed time, at all, and had to play at the default time (9PMest)

PS- For those that are in Cevo, watch out for Midnight Society. They will likely ignore everything you post in match comms.

if you're gonna register in a league to get forfeit wins you might as well just not register, not scrim and keep pretending and telling your friends that you're good.
if your team is "fine with taking the ffw" instead of rescheduling you should probably go back to pubs slinky

how did I gay him out of a match? my team has a FFL from the previous match kind of in the same fashion but you dont see me boohooing all over the forums about it, shit happens. Jaguar added me like a week in advance and didnt say a single word to me. I dont go out and talk to teams because for my team the default time is perfect for us so we dont feel a need to change the match, all the matches we've rescheduled have been due to the other team talking to me about it. Doesnt seem like thats my fault. Also hes saying that im "sniping" ffws, this is the first ffw we have.

Because one of my players is on an invite team, 2 are brothers who on the weekdays go to bed relatively early and my demo travels for work. And when he isnt traveling for work he goes to bed early since he needs to wake up early. So yeah, they were fine with it.

lol who cares, when I had to play against jaguars team in open they managed to get the match on Friday at 9:30 est (ESEA auto accept after 24 hrs), I added him and he said they want to play friday and "they will take the forfeit win" if needed, so he has no room to complain when hes done this to other people before.

It seems silly to be fine with it, because cevo's policy is that every FFW is rescheduled against another team who also has a FFW. It would have been more efficient to try and find a workable time with Jaguar, rather than give them a FFL and still have to play that game at another time, now.

I think that most people are saying that it's pretty poor move when teams do not respond to requests in match comms, or wait to the last possible moment to deny it. While it maybe the perfect time for your team, it's not for the majority of people that play this game.
What I really do not understand is why people explain that they are trying to work out of time, but actively ignore scheduling requests? It's more difficult, and allows for some to deny, when only using steam chat instead of responding.
Also has anyone ever asked another team to play earlier than 9PMest, unless they had to do a double header?
