CEVO Spring Classic

CEVO is happy to announce team registration for our next tournament, The TF2 Off-Season Spring Classic! The Spring Classic is a short off-season tournament for Team Fortress 2 teams to help fill the void between the last few weeks of our Season 4 Playoffs and the start of Season 5 (to be announced shortly). Teams will compete for small cash prizes and invitations to our Season 5 restricted Main skill divisions.

Registration for the Off-Season Spring Classic is NOW OPEN and teams will be able to register until Tuesday, June 3rd @ 11:59 CDT. Space in these tournaments are extremely limited, so don't wait, sign your team up today.

There is a registration fee of $5.00 per player for these events and refund requests will be accepted via CEVO Support until the end of the team registration period. After the team registration period ends on Friday, May 30th, rosters will locked for the duration of the event. All matches in both events will be automatically set with a default match time of 8:30 PM CDT, but if both teams can agree, changing the scheduled time for any match is encouraged.

If your team qualifies for a prize, each "PAID" player on the roster will receive an equal share of the team's prize money, regardless of whether or not they participated in any matches, and only players who have submitted CEVO earnings forms within 30 days of their final match will be paid out. Players who wish to forfeit their share of the prize money to the rest of their teammates can make a request by sending an email to accounting@cevo.com. All prize claims will be processed within 60 days of the final match in the event.

Additionally, we will be publicly testing our in-development automated match mod during this tournament. Tournament matches played on official CEVO servers will benefit from increased protection against unauthorized ringers, a per-player ready up system (type !ready in chat to ready up), automated team switching at half, automatic STV demo uploading, automatic score reporting, and more. As always, we strongly encourage players to provide us with any feedback they may have on the features and usability of this new match mod.

When I played on a server that accidentally had it on it, it didn't support .sonic so I have to say I'm thoroughly disappointed.

Can I take a minute to say something unrelated to the article but related to CEVO?

Even though I don't play anymore, I want to thank all of the CEVO guys for having the league back for the players. I'm not familiar with names aside from Pipher and Lange, but thank you both and everyone else. CEVO was the first league I ever played in. It was the last couple of seasons before it, well to be brutally honest, turned into a shitfest. It helped me gain interest in competitive TF2 incredibly, and it's awesome seeing it come back from what I figured was the complete end of the league.

CEVO, TWL somewhat and obviously ESEA are, in a way, what allowed this community to even exist. Of course, without players playing, there would be no competitive community, but at the same time, without any leagues willing to take the chance on this game, there wouldn't be a competitive scene nor a competitive community.

I'm not sure how well the league is holding up right now, but I feel like the only way to go for CEVO right now is up. Congratulations on successfully bringing back the league and I hope the best for it. Again, thank you.

Thanks for the kind words kirby, we really appreciate them. We're going to do our absolute best not to let the league turn into a shitfest ever again! After this tournament, the Season 5 announcement is on the way and hopefully we can continue to turn things around @ CEVO TF2.

Haha, well from what I remember it wasn't really the league's fault. It was more the fault of those who played in the league. Either way, I'm glad to see and hear that everything's going alright. Keep it up!

increased protection against unauthorized ringers

If I may ask, does this use some kind of integrated API, and if so, does this mean that a public API is closer to release?

Langethesupremecommanderincreased protection against unauthorized ringersIf I may ask, does this use some kind of integrated API, and if so, does this mean that a public API is closer to release?
To dodge and answer with another question, what would you like to see from a potential public CEVO API? What exact data would you want access to?

Really, the most useful info for me would be a way to figure out which team a player is on and vice versa, as well as info about what division a team is in. It would also be nice to have player and team history, though I wouldn't consider that a priority.

The reason I bring this up now is because there was an API confirmed in progress before.

CEVOPipher#58, this is already on the roadmap and we've already started building the framework, so we hope to be able to release an API to access some of our league information shortly, but sadly I don't have an ETA.

For any teams that are planning to start CEVO this season and want to get a Main spot...this is how you will do it, we will likely not take applications into the division and strictly base moveups on promo/placement events such as this and previous season results.

LangeBump, we're still looking for more teams to fill out the bracket! Currently there are 16 teams signed up, but only one is marked as "ready". Still plenty of room left!

Easiest main invite ever.

Hi guys,

Just want to give this thread one last bump to make sure that everyone is aware that this tournament is intended for anyone and everyone, there are absolutely no restrictions on who can or can't sign up. Registration is open until 11:59 PM Friday (30th) night and there are currently only 4/16 team slots filled. As Spangler mentioned above, this is a great way for teams that are new to CEVO to qualify directly for the s5 Main division, without having to play a season in Open. In addition to the s5 Main invites, there's also a small cash prize pool of $480 up for grabs. We'll also be previewing the automated TF2 match mod that we've been developing and are planning to use in Season 5!

If anyone has any last minute questions about the event feel free to reply here and we'll do our best to answer you as quickly as we can.

Thanks,
CEVO|Pipher

Last call for TF2 Spring Classic teams! Extended registration closes tonight at midnight and we're currently sitting at 13/16 teams. We'll be releasing the brackets (random seeds) as soon as registration closes tonight, regardless of whether we fill the last 3 spots or not. Don't miss the last chance to secure a Main spot for your team next season.

In other news, we'll have an announcement out regarding Season 5 next Monday!

Thanks,
CEVO|Pipher

can I get some help understanding the purpose of the roster lock? I know of at least three teams now who have been negatively affected by this rule. they've either had to ffw (cinnamon dongers, lovers and ghosts) or play a 5v6 (the blame game).

I understand the roster deadline in order to get teams signed up, and everyone was fully aware that it is listed in the rules that the rosters will be locked for the duration of the tournament. however I really honestly fail to see how it benefits anyone to have a zero tolerance policy with regards to changing lineups when it prevents two teams from playing entirely.

if there isn't any exception to be made in the interest of playing games instead of not playing games, I'd like to see a refund at least. that's essentially two teams who have paid for nothing at all, which is a chill waste of $60.

edit:

wow, so one forfeit loss results in both teams being disqualified entirely from the tournament? why aren't forfeit losses treated just like a normal loss, so we can just go into the consolation bracket and keep playing? this is honestly kind of unreal, I really would like to get any kind of reasoning for running the tournament like this.

I think the roster lock is fair for such a short tournament. It prevents players that get knocked out early from joining a roster still in the tourny, as well as teams picking up better players further into the tournament just for the sake of winning. It's no different than ESEA locking rosters before playoffs. This is basically playoffs without a regular season.

The teams knew exactly when they would be playing and what they were getting into, if they didn't choose to put backups on their rosters it's entirely their fault.

But the issue is that a forfeit loss a instant disqualification from the tournament. That shit isn't fair if we didn't even get a chance to play a single game. And we pretty much lost 30$ joining this tourney.

I was acting team captain for Cinnamon Dongers and I don't think any of these particular thoughts would apply to us - I don't know any invite players who want to hang around with a bunch of UGC-Plastic nerds.

This is true, and why I didn't pursue the matter when I learned my pocket couldn't actually play during the first (and only, in our case) two matches.

Yeah I agree that's unfair, which is why I didn't touch that point at all. I think it's fair to be upset about that.

It might not have applied to you, but unfortunately it often applies to other teams, and you can't have a rule for only specific teams in a tournament.
