my favorite map is the one with the beer
i think the probed one is really awful, but i don't like the original of that map either
i think the arena map would actually be fun in organized pug teams though i doubt anyone would really be up for arena pugs

i could totally see that map being played in highlander or 6s and being fun, it reminded of a more frantic version of standin since the points are so close together

I think probed is the only map that wont die straight after the update, the arena map will die cos its arena, the 2fort i assume is limited time like _event, and i dont think watergate will have its own option in quickplay, unless asteroid comes out and it gets bundled with that

Some of the new materials on 2fort are beautiful though. I'd like to sde some of those/the color scheme in customs. Adds a cool sci-fi feel.

Pretty sure you can't use those in Hammer because they're packed into the .bsp. And that .bsp can't be opened with GCFScape or something similar for unknown reasons.

The alien props and assets are available somewhere on TF2Maps, otherwise they will be publically released soon as far as I'm told. Otherwise, I have the alien models and can find people to upload assets.

Bloodsire come back, you can blame it all on me.

- encouragement for spawncamping to be honest. its a small map, plus it gives you self healing if you manage to kill -enough peasants with bottles inside of their weak body.
- the 2fort map looks really good.
- more unusual effect for harder sniping
- no matchmaking

valve is working on other stuff so they let the community content creators get an update out with cool stuff in it, none of this was valve's doing

What? I was able to open it with GCFScape just fine. I had trouble decompiling it though, it crashes Hammer.
edit: nevermind false alarm, I see what you mean, it opens but you can't extract files correctly

decompiling with bspsource with the "extract embedded files" flag causes bspsource to throw errors and stop extracting embedded files, too

Typically when Valve purchases a custom map they purchase all assets that come with it so that they may be used by basically anybody, however with the recent set of maps (Gun Mettle and these) they don't seem to have actually purchased the map and thus the assets that come with them. If they do end up purchasing it I could see the assets being made available for use like other groups of assets in the past. I do think that some of the assets in this update are quite nice and very well made but I am not sure if they will fit in with most maps bar the Halloween maps.

it sucks to see the trend of not really caring about optimazation on maps. was struggeling to get more then 100 fps on the new koth map when i get 200 average on mid fights

If anyone else is still crashing when playing the new maps, try setting model detail to "high" in options, that fixed it for me. It's definitely related to fps configs, but I haven't been able to narrow it down to a specific command.

Additionally, setting r_3dsky to "1" will fix invisible ufos on 2fort_invasion and watergate.

edit: apparently setting model detail to high only works on 2fort_invasion, still crashing on watergate
