I know many people shittalk you because you're a hl player, and most of those players are just awful 6s players who have no right to shittalk anyone, but you're actually so delusional my man. This is an awesome tournament for prize money, but you should really leave it at that. Making this into a legitimate format is beyond ridiculously stupid. From watching a bit of your video about your ideas on Valve and TF2, your thoughts about what this game needs are actually so absurdly delusional, not to mention some of your ideas about random topics in that video are actually factually wrong lol. In terms of competitive, you outright said Valve isn't quite supporting it, and you're right, they really aren't besides implementing matchmaking. You then followed up by saying that it's because they don't like the format so they're not gonna get too involved with 6s........They have already accepted 6s as a functionable format. No matter what format you choose, Valve will absolutely not put more effort into balancing and supporting competitive more in general, and that's all there is to it.

The decision has been up to Valve since day 1 (not to just support competitive with money, but also to actually fix the game and support it with efficient updates), and it still is; it just gets harder for Valve to regain the potential they've had in growing TF2 bigger each day they wait.

this tournament compared to tf2 should be looked at like fashion shows compared to actual clothing. no the format won't ever be supported but it could bring up some interesting ideas. i'm looking forward to it at least

To answer some questions. I agree that ashville or coalplant should not be both on there. I didn't communicate effectively like I did with vanguard about that. I mostly did that, because I want at least 3 koth maps. Definitely shout out some interesting koth maps. I saw koth_bagel I'll take a look at that. Same with borneo, of the 3 PL maps that's the one I'm most iffy on.

I know I'm alone in my liking of vanguard (6s and HL), hence why I put that one as potential to change. Since I didn't see a traditional ESEA map that fit the type of 5cp's I wanted. If you guys have suggestions for that, please toss it out as well. Definitely not badlands and snakewater I'm iffy on. Maybe metalworks.

For why I decided to put money into this, it's pretty simple. I wanted to have people actually try it. If I just put this up and there was no prize or a tiny one, it probably wouldn't have gotten a lot of traction. This incentivizes players to actually try it out and maybe even come up with unique strategies just for this format.

Glad this is happening, if not just for the fact that next time someone throws these ideas out we can actually point them to where and why we don't use them.

sigafoo, what you are trying to do with this tournament is run an experiment that only has variables. no (or very little) useful information will be gleaned because of the sheer amount of chaos presented from this ruleset. note that i dont mean the rules are inherently chaotic or bad, but that they are all new, people wont know how to best play around them and teams will be shaky.

what i strongly believe you should do instead is run a series of slightly smaller prize pool events with fewer new rules, so that you can really understand the impact of the new rule relative to the current 6's meta. have an event that only showcases payload, a/d, and new koth maps but with the existing 6's ruleset, then run an event that has the weapon pick and ban system in place, etc. etc. running the events like this would give you, the community, and valve a lot more concrete methodology and understanding of how these rules work.

not only that, but running the events with a less chaotic ruleset would also prevent 6's elitism from rearing it's ugly head. with the way the tournament is structured right now, it would give every diehard 6's fan the perfect opportunity to say "look at how messy the game is when we use these other rules, they are all garbage!" if you introduce those rules one at a time though, it gives those rules a much higher likelihood of success and adoption or interest among the greater community, because it will already resemble the 6's they are familiar with.

It does seem a little weird to draw that much attention to a totally untested format. I guess there's no harm in it, we're clearly not adopting it for standard play unless something awful happens.

This is gonna be interesting to see play out, I don't think this will become an official competitive gamemode, but you know, it's worth playing for money and just to see how it all turns out.

Don't really see the point in pick/ban. There's a bunch of awful shit that's gonna make it in with only 3 bans, at that point you may as well just let all the BS in, no?? If it's there so people sign up knowing they can ban some weapons I don't think it really matters. People are still gonna play with $2k on the line.

And one scout limit? That's obviously just so teams are forced to run a class not usually used. With unlocks I think we'd see heavy to mid and shit anyway so it's kinda irrel. It's just restricting team composition options.

I think diff maps/all unlocks would be better if you want to run some rando tournament. Maybe CL2 across the board apart from medic or something.

Why does everyone keep saying that every format other than 6s has been tried and is known to be bad? Like I don't know how many formats have been tried, but surely not all of them. Dude put up actual money to test some ideas, how does this negatively affect anyone is beyond me.

Teams will get punished really hard if they rely on heavy to mid. There are so many counters to it, especially in 6s. Restricting teams with 1 scout can be interesting since it forces teams to think outside the cookie cutter composition. In this case the class restriction might be a good thing, especially if teams take it serious because of the prize pool.

What possible or most likely weapon bans are we going to see from teams?

Holy fuck what if some team decides to ban gunboats and crossbow, how that will pan out, I'm not too sure, but it might be interesting to see how teams adapt.

i think if you wanted to experiment, force people to play some AD rather than PL. at least AD has some chance of working with this number of players, plus finding a real good AD map to put in the map pool would be nice imo

How is the whitelist ban/save thing being done? A base whitelist.tf preset which is being modified and then the resulting generated whitelist is loaded on the server with TFTrue?

I love and will support everything that is trying to revise the horribly stale 6s meta or has to do with item unlocks/whitelists, so I'll try to gather some item prizes for the 3rd (and possibly 4th) place team!

If Trump laid down a 100 Million $ prize money for an american football match on unicycles, there would be huge participation and worldwide news attention, yet it would be shit and the winners who are now rich will never try it again because it's shit.

I don't see what meaningful information can be gathered by this, no matter the outcome, only exception being if a lot of high-profile players sign up and afterwards an overwhelming majority of them says that the format was actually fun and they really want to play it again. This is something that I would definitely not bet 2000$ on.
