another proof that even top prem players don't take that shit seriously
NA HL coverage died because of the lack of staff... now EU HL coverage will die because of the lack of matches?
By the way, where did the HL subforum go? Shouldn't there be a place to discuss it, even if TFTV doesn't cover it?
Kaja going savage tbh
ondkajahaha this shitty fucking league is so useless it’s insane. clever of the admins to decide the playoffs date AFTER the main season, making it completely impossible to plan around the playoffs. not that it would have changed anything anyway, only fucking idiots plan their lives around fucking highlander anyway.
fucking shitty teams in this so called PREMIER division who can’t even take on the most unstable fucking team plagued with roster issues. honestly what the fuck is your problem? this shitty division is fucking dead, there are no good players and a team can just pick up a random assortment of old players, have 0 stability and still come 2nd.
just end this shitty highlander league already, it has been fun for a while but now the fun is over. get the highlander players over to 6v6 so they can finally see go outside their fucking safe space and actually have to be good at more than just one thing
fuck this shitty gamemode, i’m not playing another season of this shit again.
this is how highlander dies

It's easy to say "lolhl" and "good" but no matter what your opinions on the gamemode, the HL community is a significant part of the TF2 community, and it makes me sad when stuff like this happens.
I only have one thing to say about this. It wasn't a good idea to establish double elimination playoffs in highlander at its current stage, causing them to take way longer than people care to stick around for. The old playoff model (4th plays 3rd, winner plays 2nd, winner plays 1st) was shorter and more fitting.
being fair - eu 6s is getting there too
the signup numbers have gone down so much, we used to get a stable 300 for ages since I started playing, we didn't break 150 this season and it's not as if the numbers are going to go back up

Despite comp being on a downswing a concerted newbie recruitment effort could probably slow the decline. No mix group though
what the fuck kaja and chess are making a shitshow out of this
This is chessclub having bad organisation, nothing more. Ondkaja is blaming the league and the format for one team supposedly not being able to play a single day in the week before the deadline.

Yeah, I should have unbooked my LAN trip to the US and rescheduled my exams so I could play the highlander playoffs which dates and format were decided AFTER THE FUCKING SEASON HAD ENDED

Nobody said that, but there isn't much point complaining about the league when you made choices what you want to do and other players made theirs. Also surely Chess has more players than you alone, so your unavailability doesn't mean the whole team can't play.

It's funny cuz the same applies to prem 6v6.

its your own choice to book a trip to lan when you know that hl finals are coming up, if you say that lan is more important then its your own choice again to let the grand finals down, nobody forced you to go to lan...
if you have the choice between the first (and most likely last) "big" international NA tf2 lan, or highlander (lol) game, which one are you going to choose?
dont be afraid to answer, i wont be surprised from a sniper mains response to this question.
i dont think theres a single person in tf2 whod care more about playing hl than rewind lan
Firedizastastuffbut why is it the leagues fault that you want to go to lan ?
i never said you should base you lives around lolhl but even if your grandma died and you go to the funeral at grand final date you cant blame the league for not being available.
if someone dies, lets be fucking real you, you're going to take that person's funeral OVER A FUCKING VIDEOGAME.
you could consider the grand final date and possibly get it changed if it were decided BEFORE the season began.
Ondkaja went to LAN and placed 1st in his division.
Strong Opinions came to ETF2L and made their concerns about their players missing the HL playoffs due to the rewind lan. That is why the actual week of the LAN there were no games scheduled. The LAN finished on the 23rd, the lower bracket final period was the 25-27th, the teams chose to play it on the 24th but that was up to them, this was the chessclub vs SDCK game.
The grand finals were obviously later than the lower bracket finals. There was plenty of time to play both the rewind lan and highlander playoffs.
As for the dates not being published at the start of the season, we didn't want to publish as there was the possibility of this lan coming up but nothing was concrete at the time regarding EU players going, the final dates were decided and published late December, i cannot remember the exact date but as I said earlier they did not clash with LAN.
However from talking to chess it was not kaja being unavailable that meant they were unwilling to play. It was other players schedules with work/school/travel independent of rewind lan that made it not possible as far as i know.
Whether people want to schedule time to play highlander is up to them, but please do not make it look like ETF2L forced you to make a choice between highlander and the lan. You are free to do whatever you want with your time but dont blame others when you didnt put effort in to help avoid the issue. We want people to play tf2 and have fun, our job is to facilitate people having fun playing tf2.
Let's not forget some tiny, but important details:
The schedule deadline for the Grand Final was Wednesday, January 25th. The result deadline was Saturday, January 28th.
Seems fine, right?
Well the schedule deadline for the Lower Bracket Final was Tuesday, January 24th, result deadline Friday, January 27th.
So you're supposed to schedule the Grand Final before you know who's playing.
Let's compare that with the match immediately preceding the LBF.
The Lower Bracket Semifinal had the schedule deadline on Tuesday, January 10th and the result deadline on Friday, January 13th.
It was played on Sunday, January 15th.
So delaying the LBSF is completely fine, I mean you've got 2 weeks before the next match, but delaying the Grand Final, which no one has to wait for, is absolutely impossible. It's not like that happened in 6s. OH WAIT IT DID.
EDIT:
This isn't about LAN, having the result deadline for the GF on 28th when the LBF has it on 27th is just 100% retarded.
It's literally "Play on that saturday or play your LBF earlier. If you want to scrim or can't fit 2 matches in one week well not our problem".
SetsulSo delaying the LBSF is completely fine, I mean you've got 2 weeks before the next match, but delaying the Grand Final, which no one has to wait for, is absolutely impossible. It's not like that happened in 6s. OH WAIT IT DID.
From I heard its not about being impossible to delay the GF, but one of the teams not being able to play later because they planned to play GF before the deadline, so they scheduled to be available this week not the next after the deadline. And now that team will have work/exams next week, so of course they don't wanna play with even more players missing next week just because the enemy team couldn't get their players to play this week.
Deadline on Saturday is still a terrible idea.
Allowing the preceding match to be delayed to the point where only one day is left for the GF is a terrible idea.
Rumour has it that the 6s GF was delayed by two weeks.
I can absolutely understand it when you have only 4 days (Wednesday - Saturday) and can't find a day when both teams can play. But it's not like both teams dissappear completely after this Saturday.
I just can't see a reason why the GF can't be delayed as much as it has to while delaying the LBF so much that it completely kills the timeframe for the GF was done without a second thought.
