In the post-grandfinals interview, b4nny didnt have i63 on his radar. Viewed it as a great community lan, but not really a suitable international lan, stating that rewind set the bar higher.

That's not a direct quote, just what I recollect him saying, someone can watch the vod and actually quote him to correct anything i have wrong.

I will see you lovely international people at this international LAN of global proportions

Okay, fuck it, I'm taking the bait:

- Insomnia has been THE TF2 LAN since forever, it will always bring back peeps like TEZC, etc
- The NEC is an amazing venue, the airport is a 20 minute walk away, most hotels are 5 to 15 minutes walk away (compare that to LAX being an hour drive to the venue and most hotels being 10 min drive, Uber thanks you)
- NA food literally kills players
- Rewind is in SoCal, aka on the wrong side of the country, the timezone absolutely sucked for stream watchers
+ Rewind had computers provided
+ Rewind had a bigger prizepool
+ Rewind entry tickets were cheaper
- I highly doubt traveling was more expensive if you compare locals/foreigners (EU->NA was probably generally as expensive as NA->EU, NA->NA was probably generally as expensive as EU->EU)

Rewind I and II were great, they're just not the same, they'll never be.
I understand you don't want to spend the money, I absolutely do, but some of these issues can be resolved (Essentials.tf could find more sponsors and provide computers to the NA/top teams), making the few points that Rewind has quite minuscule.

Show Content
Suggestion: move international LAN to RGB PogChamp (don't worry about me being on the media team as stream producer, that's definitely not a conflict of interest >:3)

In reality though TwiiKuu hit the nail right on the fucking head. While the folks at ESA have done a lot to help our community, iSeries has been and always will be where it all started. Fuck, if it weren't for i46 I don't think I would have ever even taken interest in the game and gotten to meet and experience all of the amazing things our community has to offer, and gotten to become a producer/caster. I know I speak at least for myself in saying that iSeries is irreplacable just because of the history of the event. Also

NA to NA is more expensive, at least going coast to coast.

The case for Rewind being the definitive LAN hinges on the fact that NA teams are generally better than EU teams, so getting as many of them as possible to LAN provides the highest level of competition. I-series events have the history, atmosphere, lower travel cost for the average team attending the event, and better time zone for viewers, but if you're looking at the events in terms of "world championship tf2", holding the LAN in NA will give you the best games of tf2.

Ultimately, it comes down to what you're looking for in an intercontinental event, and since the best thing about I-series events are things that aren't related to the actual tf2 being played, it's fine if NA only sends a few players/pug teams. We should absolutely continue to support both tournaments going forward, but it's important to understand the difference between them. I-Series LANs are a fun time where people can play high level tf2 with 0 ping, but unless we can get at least 3 full NA teams out there, Rewind is a better world championship.

who cares what the better LAN is

why are we wasting the opportunity of having 2 big international LANs rather than 1?

I really don't think this can be said confidently. Even if you include the fact that Froyo has won every major title it has attended, that still doesn't set a standard for the rest of NA. I mean, the whole point of these lans are to try and get NA and EU players to compete against each other(AU if possible), you cant go out the door saying that NA is better, when a majority of NA has not played against EU teams. Only the top of invite has, with usually only FROYO or maybe ASCENT beating whatever team is sent overhere. With that just alone it says the top EU team, which didn't have its best roster going up ASCENT or FROYO anyway, is still better than all of invite that fought against it.

If you look at iSeries, Ascents usually placed 4th with 2 other EU teams higher than them. the last time FROYO went to an iseries they lost (i58) and haven't bothered coming back since. I truly don't think you can say NA is better than EU, making Rewind superior. They are both great places for either continent to send their best teams.

The last time Ascent went to an iSeries was almost 3 years ago, and their current team looks nothing like the team they sent back then. i58 Froyo and current Froyo share 1 player, so that comparison doesn't really work either.
I'm all for competition, and I'm all for both LANs seeing play, I just think that based on the current level of talent in both scenes you can get better competition by fundraising to send 1 or 2 EU teams to NA than you can by sending 1 or 2 NA teams to EU. If we can get NA teams over to i63 without having to crowdsource, we should absolutely do that, but I'm worried that if we try to raise money twice a year we won't be able to consistently send teams overseas for very long.

please stop talking out of your ass. We literally do not know how the majority of NA stacks up against EU, as recently the only times there's been international representation is when FROYO murdered mostly non-prem teams (save lowpander) at ESU community rumble and a kaptainless Se7en played at Rewind II. The main point of sending teams over is to be able to have more than one opportunity a year for international competition, and to be able to actually see how top teams stack up in each region. Ideally teams with orgs (Velocity, Se7en, Ascent, etc.) are able to do international travel with their prize winnings and sales of team merch, which has been getting a lot more prevelant nowadays, so I don't imagine community financial strain being as heavy as it once was (save for production and talent going over, which afaik is being at least partially covered by ETF and is otherwise on the individual)

If that's truly the case than yes, i-Series is a fantastic opportunity for the best tf2 teams to compete. I hope we can get as many teams over there as possible.

Can we have NA and AU teams just show up for Copenhagen Games 2019, in that case there are 11 months to sort travel and accommodation and not have to worry about Brexit happening before i63 :P

It's definitely way more expensive to travel from na to eu than the other way, flying into LAX is mad cheap and I'm pretty sure like maxi and ondkaja got cheaper flights from the uk and sweden than most people paid flying from within north america

That said idk why even bother arguing about this shit are others have said

Anyone looking for a place to stay, i got a hotel room booked from thursday -> monday that can hold up to 5 people. Cost would be £70 for all 4 nights if you want to stay (350 for whole room for 4 nights, so split by 5). Hotel is 15 mins walk from NEC. So far got 3 people confirmed and one maybe going, so just looking for someone to fill last spot atm, and maybe other spot if unconfirmed guy doesn't want to go.

hmu on steam for more info if interested.

EDIT: Full now.
