#38 New matchmaking site similar to Tf2lobby in TF2 General Discussion

If captains and Mumble are integrated, what is the difference from tf2mix? A lot of the time when I play lobbies it's because I want to stay in my own Mumble and talk with friends. I guess Mumble comms are kind of necessary, but requiring it might limit the audience for that kind of site. Also, I think teams based on player ELOs might be more effective than captaining, if someone can come up with a good way to calculate it (which might be pretty difficult). Even when I used to play lobbies constantly, I still didn't know most of the people playing.

#34 New matchmaking site similar to Tf2lobby in TF2 General Discussion
-SalI think its going to be pretty hard for players who often play at tf2lobby, transition themselves to tf2center, because most of them don't even know that much about the community, for example: knowing the website, tf.tv.

Spam lobby chat enough and eventually people will probably know about the site. Just ask tragic.

TacoThis will be great
No more terrible medics that don't know how to play or people readying up as pyro

Well, lobby medics are usually terrible because they're new and therefore have no gamesense, and no one comms so they have no idea what to do. You are totally dependent on your own gamesense and awareness when no one is communicating, so it's really difficult for new players.

The site should be welcoming to new players, and allow them to play with higher-skilled players so they can actually learn and improve. What is needed is some mechanism to balance teams based on ELOs or something, so it's not like 75% of lobbies where all the new players end up on one team to get rolled. Also, maybe some built-in reminders for new players to learn rollouts before playing demo, maybe get a little experience on other classes before trying medic, etc.

A karma system that actually does something would be great too. Players who troll/offclass constantly or leave matches early should be (IP) banned for progressively longer periods of time.

#7 ESEA CS Ladder System in TF2 General Discussion
Khakiwhy would you not try hard in a scrim, what's the purpose of wasting a bunch of people's time for 30 minutes

Because sometimes trying super hard in scrims is a waste of time and not fun. I'd rather not spend half of a scrim just standing around while the other team takes 15 minutes to get a pick to push last or something.

Khakiare there really women that are impressed by invite tf2 status

I think it's because being good at something that she is interested in is generally an appealing quality, regardless of if it's tf2, sports, school, or whatever.

#7 Any games that I should buy soon? in Off Topic

Don't expect much of a discount for really new games like Assassin's Creed 3 in the Christmas sale, but there are always a lot of good sales on slightly older games. Check sites like Amazon and greenmangaming too, they have good sales on Steam-activate-able games pretty frequently and usually new games/preorders are cheaper from those sites.

For XCOM, there might be better deals if you wait, but you have to decide if the difference between 20% off and like 33% off really matters to you.

#4 movement script in TF2 General Discussion

Considering the only actual commands in the script are forward, back, moveleft, and moveright, I don't see how an update could possibly break that.

#3 ESEA S12 LAN Preview: Spacewhales (br0) in News
4812622Tri, TLR and who will all be strong performers on their respective teams?

What's with all the Open and subopen players hating on Tyrone? Even if his DM and general performance have fallen off a bit, he's still good and usually steps it up at LAN.

Why waste the community's money if you're not going to at least put in some effort to be competitive at LAN?

#6 night school/ online courses? in Off Topic

My school doesn't have online classes, but I've heard from other people that they tend to be really easy. Evening classes is just personal preference I guess, I've taken some before and it kind of sucked having to go back to class at night.

I'd much rather take a traditional lecture class than an online course. Unless the professor is just awful, usually they make the class a lot more interesting/engaging/fun, even when it's on a topic you weren't very interested in. And it's good to have a professor to talk to/get to know, because they can help you out with the class and with other things (networking, advice, etc.).

No point in voting unless you're in the minority of areas where elections are actually competitive. What a great system we have.
