How should I start casting matches? Should I start streaming right away or should I just locally record myself casting a demo and show it to someone?
I want to cast because I feel like there's matches that are possibly great that aren't covered by eXtv or Sal. I also feel like this would be a way to improve my gamesense; I can analyze why the teams do what they do.

talk to a bigger caster like sal or kip and ask to cast with them

Sal just started doing "post produced" work, meaning he wasn't doing the camera live and recording while watching a demo. It's possible, and probably easiest if you're just starting, to do your own camera beforehand and then record.
The advantages would be knowing how the action is going to happen, so you wouldn't be so lost for a first time caster. I don't know if you could sound scripted if you know too much about the details of the game thoguh
I'm not a caster, and I would definitely try to talk to someone who has a lot of experience casting (like Sal etc as VoodooChow suggested).

Some people have casted lobbies for fun and claim it made them better. Really, I think the only thing you need to do to be a successful caster is never having silence going on. It helps to have a partner, so that you're always talking about something related to the game, even during stalemates.
