Hey everyone, I was thinking of getting my scatter gun signed by some major scout like clockwork, if i can, or b4nny. There is only one problem, it says gift from uknown, samething for crafted items, in game, but in the steam item inventory, it says the actual person who gifted it or crafted it. does anyone know why that is or does valve have any plans to fix it?

Because some of the signers make their profiles private afterwards. It's a feature.

No this is not true, valve simply screwed up so it says gifted by unknown in game for some weird reason, no matter if the person that gifted it has a private profile or not

From what I've seen:
Viewing your inventory from steam will always show the name, regardless of being friends with them/private profiles.
Viewing your inventory in-game will only show the name if you're friends with them.
Anyone else viewing your items in-game (kill cam or inspect) will never see the name, regardless of whether you're friends with them or not.

im pretty sure ive seen peoples names in killcams that im friends with, but i cant back this up with any actual evidence or brainpower.

It shows up randomly, I'm not friends with Duwatna but it shows up sometimes in game on my pipes, and I got killed by a seagull original and it showed up in game (not friends with him) it almost always shows up as unknown, but it shows up occasionally.

Yeah it's merely a bug, a friend gave me a crafted Aladin's private reserve but later it became [Unknown] for no apparent reason

If you've ever been in game with the person that has gifted the item, then it should show there actual name as well, for example I saw someone in a pub with a muselk signed rocket launcher, I don't have muselk added on steam but because I've been in game with him, I can see his name.
