Demo smooth help

I am learing how to use the demo smoothing feature but every time when i save and try to play the smooth demo i can't find it, typing playdemo NAME_smooth in console gives this messege:
CDemoFile::Open: couldn't open file NAME_smooth.dem for reading.

Am i doing something wrong? Do you guys know why this is happening?

Before you are going to smooth your demo, you need to open it with the playdemo command, otherwise the smooth doesn't save
