Season 5 was shit and d&d obviously have no idea what they are doing without GRRM looking over them. Not expecting this season to be any good as well tbh

No it fucking wasn't. They basically packed 2 of the books into a mess of a season with horrible boring plot lines and pointless shitty characters. They cut out so much of the interesting parts of the books like Jamie's story line and added the stupid sand snakes with his daughter who had no character development and was only put into the show to have a pointless death (thats what the fans want rite characters dying dont they???). It was a rushed mess and they literally managed to ruin one of the best characters in the whole series by having him burn his daughter alive. Not to mention Dany who is still the same old boring bitch who doesn't do anything and every scene with her is excruciatingly boring. Nothing made sense and it was an insult to the books and characters.

I wouldn't go as far to say it was garbage, but it was definitely lacking compared to the other seasons. The reasoning behind most of the deaths were pretty ridiculous;

Show Content
Jon Snow, Stannis

when their deaths make rational sense in the book. The plotline of the sand snakes was also really stupid, going against exactly what her husband said.

10 minutes?

stannis

hated him from the beginning and every second of his screentime, didn't feel out of character what he did imo.

dany

Don't understand what you find boring about her scenes, sure she doesn't do anything, but whenever she's on screen there are people around her who do and it's interesting. Varys doesn't do much and he's a great character.

I rly don't see what the big problem is compared to the other seasons.

GRRM himself has mentioned how the butterfly effect is starting to take shape in the HBO adaption. Small, medium, and even large changes where the show has diverted from the books will change things dramatically, and while they both might (and likely will: unless GRRM changes the ending he told them) end up at the same place, hopefully the books and show will provide 2 enjoyable but separate journeys.

I've always liked the show, but have become increasingly disillusioned with some of it's adaption choices. In recent seasons they seem to have slashed and melded major plot-lines (understandable) but then waste value screen-time on completely invented story-lines (why?).

This season will be strange: not knowing what is going to happen, and wondering if what does happen will ruin my book experience. I'll likely still watch though . . . because they have me by my formidable balls.

Season 5 was shit though

Show Content
- Barristan Selmy bullshit death
- Stannis character rape
- No Wyman Manderly
- Sansa going to Winterfell/Littlefinger's power grab RIP
- Ellaria Sand instead of Arianne Martell
- Dornish Master Plan RIP
- 'For The Watch' completely borked. Ser Alliser Thorne character development does a complete 180
- Most of Dorne wasn't in the books and fucking hell is it obvious or what. The quality of writing is atrocious
- The sparrows/Faith Militant are just shallow, one-dimensional religious extremists
- Cersei's amazing AFFC chapters are completely botched
- Mance Rayder/Lord of Bones gone
- No Young Griff/Jon Connington, gives the impression the book plot has no importance

There's many more... Ironborn are in Season 6 but are there plans for the Kingsmoot? It seems a bit askew to the current events, unless they just plan on finding some shitty way to delay the battle of Slavers Bay.

The battle at Hardhome proved that they are capable of great, original content adapted from the books but these are very few and far between. The cons greatly outweighed the pros last season.

BrenWhy cant you enjoy the books and show as a seperate entity? Thats what I do, life too short to get mad over a fictional piece of art lmao

I enjoy the show very much, but when you see wasted potential it is difficult to not become frustrated. I understand in TV and movies you have to make sacrifices when adapting from the source material, however I disagree with a lot of the decisions made and it weakens the adaptation as a result. I assume you never get mad over TF2? Life's too short for everything. The fact I see books and TV shows as art mediums open themselves up to this level of critique, and this is what I enjoy both discussing and reading about.

Brienne and Jaime's story lines in Season 5 for example came across as mere filler until their Season 6 story arcs which are likely to align with A Feast For Crows and the 1/2 chapters in A Dance With Dragons. A decision was likely made to have them included regardless of purpose as there would be a dwindling list of main characters otherwise. Their attempts to combine a lot of these threads into an intertwined plot given the limitations is admirable, but they failed in the end. I'd have much preferred not having either of them in Season 5, but Jaime had to be out of King's Landing for one reason or another right?

I don't know why HBO changed some scenes in early seasons, to make them way worse than in the book for no reason at all Like the Davos reading the message from the nightwatch when stannis wanted to behead him with lightbringer in storms of swords the last few episodes of season 5 were honestly awful, can't wait to watch the trainwreck that will be this season.

I think we can all agree there were defenitely some budget cuts (and not enough time) for some scenes and that took away some of the immersion, but that doesn't take away it's one of the most enjoying shows I've ever watched.

It just seemed like they spent the vast majority of their budget on Hardhome, and after that everything seemed a little lackluster, aside from maybe Drogon.

Yeah, it was a terrible season overall which is sad because it had a lot of potential to be the best season, there were lots of interesting turning points in ADWD. Let's just hope they can redeem themselves with season 6

This is one of the dumbest posts i've ever read. Some people actually get attached to the story and characters and don't like it when they are ruined. Even if you look at season 5 as separate from the books it was still shit. Just because you don't get attached to any kind of media doesn't mean others don't.

I have not read the GoT books but I can understand how and why people get mad when watching on TV or in the movies. I was almost furious over Ender's Game in the movie theater because the books are simply amazing and the movie did it no justice at all. I hated the movie.

The only pat of GoT I kinda wish did not happen was Price Oberyn being killed off so quickly. I really enjoyed his character, he was smooth and the actor was really good on top of it all.

Ok then friend I know how words on the internet upset you so I will make this special Bonafide friendly version just for you!

I'm very sorry friend but this is one of the less intelligent posts i've seen you make. You see some people like me get more attached to the story and characters, unlike others such as yourself. So we don't like it when they are tarnished. Even if you look at season 5 as separate from the books it was still of a lower quality than I and many others expected so we weren't so happy when we saw how it turned out :( You see friend not all people get as attached to a story as others and there is of course nothing wrong with that :) It's just some of us get more sad when we see the people who make it do bad things with it. I hope you learned something from this and I hope we can all still be best of friends!

I get very emotionally invested into literature, and GOT is one of my favorite book series ever, and I was also pretty disappointed by season 5, yet I amazingly I can still express my opinions without being a douche.

Guess I must not be as intelligent as you

I hope the pacing is better this season. I feel like most of the first half of season 5 was characters talking about what they were going to inevitably do in the final 3 episodes over and over and over again. Coming after season 4 which had a bunch of plotlines resolve themselves over the course of the entire season made it extra jarring.
