Hey, my old headset passed away so I'm looking to buy a new one pair of headphones (without microphone).
Usage: gaming, metal, hard rock music
Budget +- 40 €
Over ear or in ear, i don't really care
I was thinking about: superlux hd 681 evo, xiaomi piston (2 or 3?)
Thanks for any suggestions!

Audio-Technica ATH-M30x are pretty good for the price.
It's all up to your sound preferences, for real. Go to some local store where you can listen to various headphones and choose ones that have the best sound for you and feel most comfortable. I can recommend AKG k518, because I like them the most out of any headphones I had.

M30s are good but from personal experience I can tell you they start getting uncomfortable at about the hour and a half mark. M50s are kind of the premier under $300 headphones. They are very comfortable and sound absolutely fantastic, but they cost more. Personally I feel it's worth the extra cost but that's up to you.

For rock and metal the standard recommendation are Grado, but they are out of your price range (SR60 are $80).
The superlux hd681 will not be great for your music preferrences, but offer by far the best soundstage of any <$100 headphone (which translates to being the best pure gaming headphone).
I will recommend the Superlux 668b $41 (which are taiwanese knockoffs of the AKG k240 $60) if you want a compromise between gaming and music in a semi-open headphone. For the extra $20, it might be worth it to get the akg k240, if not just for the better earpads and build quality.
I will also recommend the Creative Aurvana Live! $48 (I think it is on sale right now) (also known as CAL!) for a strictly music headphone that is closed.

Honestly, it's so hard to get a set of good headphones within that price range. IMO, if you really want a good pair of headphones, I guess you could make do with a pair of Pistons (make sure you don't get any fakes), and save up for a quality pair of headphones that are on sale on Amazon or Massdrop.
