how does this compare to the benQ in quality/ color?
SetsulWhich BenQ?
i was thinking the benq 144hz equivalent
i dont know much about monitors, i do recall you comparing a benQ XL2411Z to the asus VG248QE in a recent thread, so perhaps that benQ compared to this one

I don't know of any.
This one is about FreeSync and doesn't support Lightboost iirc whereas BenQ is very much about Lightboost/Strobing.
The cheapest BenQ monitor with FreeSync is the XL2730Z for 500$ and that's a 27" 1440p monitor.
Only the XL2411Z got a similar price and then it's about whether you want Lightboost/Strobing or FreeSync before the colours factor into it. If you want neither then there's cheaper options.

i dont care about lightboost or freesync (isnt freesync an amd thing? so with a 980ti its not usable anyways?), i thought the price was pretty good so i was hoping it's a good monitor
FreeSync was cut off and I only saw "Nexius 24" 144hz Free" on the sidebar

Intel said they'll support it soon as well. Nvidia does technically support it, they are just blocking it in the drivers because they want you to buy G-Sync monitors since they get some nice profit from that.
About the monitor: Some gamma problems (glorious TN panel), otherwise good.

are there any other 144hz monitors at this price points that are better? or some close in this price range?
or should i just go for the XL2411Z @ $300?

Not really, if you don't want Lightboost/Strobing, just 144Hz then it's hard to beat at that price.
would just like to say thank you Setsul for being the resident tech god
free sync is only useful if you're getting beneath 144fps. Anything higher and you have to turn on vsync to cap it.
If you're looking to get a monitor for tf2 then you should wait for the Benq 144hz monitor instead. I got mine for $200 around 1 year ago and it has blur reduction which felt as amazing as when you first see a 144hz monitor.

any idea what these usually go for? I'm not exactly shopping for a 144hz right now because I'm stuck on a laptop for the time being but I'd absolutely consider this as a future 144hz option

The proper phrasing would be "thank mr setsul".

Yeah, for fps I'd say strobing > all, but that's not everyone's main focus, some people want to play games that look pretty, some people don't like Lightboost, but those are weird, some are content with just 144Hz and nothing extra.
But yes, there is a reason why the XL2411Z is recommended so much on a forum dedicated to an fps.

Usually 250-300$ and monitors only get cheaper as time goes on, so it's really not a "once in a lifetime" deal. No need to rush anything. Maybe it'll be on massdrop again.

Apologies for the necro but this just went back up on massdrop if anyone was looking for a 144hz for Christmas

I don't recommend this monitor. I bought one last time they were on massdrop and mine came with a dead pixel and it would sometimes have a stuttering issue that could only be solved by shutting the monitor off for a few minutes. The stand is also fairly cheap though I installed mine on a swing arm.
I'm waiting on this beast :)
