RGL Season 15's regular season has drawn to a close, narrowing seven teams to merely four; Like A G6, froyotech, Witness Gaming, and GlobalClan will duke it out at RGL's second LAN playoffs at Localhost Philadelphia this weekend!

P1: Like A G6 (12-2)

vs. P2: froyotech (1-1)

vs. P3: Witness (1-1)

vs. P4: GlobalClan (2-0)

  • Pocket Scout: cap
  • Flank Scout: bomo
  • Roamer: SOOOOOOAPYMEiSTER
  • Pocket: marmaloo
  • Demoman: logan
  • Medic: LOLGUY

Like A G6 finished the regular season in first place. marmaloo joined the team since the season preview, replacing kobe1920 on Pocket after the latter stepped down early in the season. Despite the roster shakeup, Like A G6 enjoyed tremendous success in the season, remaining undefeated until the seventh week of the season, sporting a 12-0 record at their peak. However, the team took a turn in fortune during the last week of the regular season, losing back-to-back matches to rivals froyotech and Witness Gaming. Despite these end-of-season losses to their title competitors, G6 retain the first seed going into LAN, and the two-week break between the regular season and the playoffs may provide the team a chance to reset and come into the playoffs with a fresh start.

P2: froyotech (12-2)

vs. P1: Like A G6 (1-1)

vs. P3: Witness (2-0)

vs. P4: GlobalClan (1-1)

  • Pocket Scout: gungon
  • Flank Scout: yight
  • Roamer: saxophone
  • Pocket: b4nny
  • Demoman: habib
  • Medic: hubida

froyotech comes into the playoffs as the second seed, with an identical record in maps but a lower rounds won percentage – the first tiebreaker used in RGL. They had similar success to Like A G6 to start the season, taking win-after-win until the two teams met in week four, where G6 dealt a devastating 0-5 loss to the reigning champions on Snakewater. FROYO bounced back the next week with a victory over The Mafia, only for GlobalClan to hand froyotech yet another loss, this time 2-4 on Granary. Since that loss, the team looks better than ever, finishing off the season with a 3-1 revenge victory over G6, and winning both their matches against Witness Gaming. froyotech, specifically b4nny, is known to be satisfied solely by a first-place finish. With this in mind, fans can be excited to see what improvements the team has made in an effort to overcome their main title rivals in G6 and Witness.

P3: Witness Gaming (11-3)

vs. P1: Like A G6 (1-1)

vs. P3: froyotech (0-2)

vs. P4: GlobalClan (2-0)

  • Pocket Scout: branslam
  • Flank Scout: highfive
  • Roamer: laz
  • Pocket: ash
  • Demoman: artist
  • Medic: skeez

Witness Gaming is third in the standings, sitting one win behind the top two. They narrowly beat out GlobalClan 4-3 on Snakewater to start, setting the tone for the first two weeks of their season. Witness’ streak of wins came to an end in week three when froyotech handed them their first loss. Their following matches, a double-header against Anglerfish and G6, put them at 5-2 moving into the second half of the season. The team showed stronger results, only losing the team’s rematch versus froyotech on Process 3-4. wG finished the regular season on a high, with a 4-2 win over first-seed G6 evening the teams’ head-to-head record. The Season 6 champions will face arch-nemesis froyotech to start the playoffs, searching for the two map wins the team failed to secure during the regular season. Fans should be excited, as Witness Gaming has strong momentum coming into the first broadcasted match of the playoffs.

P4: GlobalClan (8-6)

vs. P1: Like A G6 (0-2)

vs. P2: froyotech (1-1)

vs. P3: Witness (0-2)

  • Pocket Scout: shamoo
  • Flank Scout: pabwo
  • Roamer: loafe
  • Pocket: pauldogg
  • Demoman: dingo
  • Medic: Dank

Last but not least we have GlobalClan who, like G6, go into the playoffs with a different roster than they started the season with. dingo joins the team as a stand-in, as SIN K4RMA, having played the majority of the season with the team on Demoman, is unable to attend the playoffs. Looking at the team’s record, one may be eager to call them the clear underdogs, but one thing needs to be pointed out: Every single match GC lost against the other playoff teams was lost by only one round, and the team managed to take a 4-2 victory over froyotech. The proven ability to push the other playoff teams to their limit consistently is something valuable. A LAN event brings a level of intensity and pressure not present in online play, and may just be what the team needs to turn those close losses into victories. Another good sign for the team’s LAN prospects comes in their better form in the second half of the season. Where their first match against GlobalClan Ice was a 4-5 defeat on Snakewater, their rematch was a 3-0 victory on the same map, showing clear improvement. Make no mistake; this team should not be underestimated and could definitely pull off some upsets heading into the playoffs.

RGL Season 15 Playoffs start on 20 July. Be sure to tune into RGL to see who will take the Season 15 title!
