anyone knows why for the past 2 (?) months half the time when joining a server half the people have to reconnect to get unlockable weapons?

haven't experienced that at all personally or in pugs, so probably not a valve issue

It's an issue with the "GAME" anti-DDoS on OVH hosted machines. For EU serveme.tf that means ElzasBrigade and MonikaBrigade, and for au.serveme.tf all the ozfortress bookables.
Because it's been rather quiet on the DDoS front this year, I wouldn't be against disabling it for a while. This wouldn't disable all anti-DDoS measures, just some stuff that tries to ensure any traffic on the servers is related to TF2.
