Another season, and another round of Invite playoffs. We've arrived at the pointy end of RGL Season 4. Familiar faces and fresh blood take to the battlefield in the coming weeks to determine who will take North America's crown. If you haven't been following this season of our favorite soap opera, here's what you need to know.
#1: froyotech (14-1)

Shocking, I know. It's been business as usual for NA's powerhouse froyotech, making light work of the majority of their regular season matches dropping only a smattering of rounds for the most part. But as has always been evident, they're not unbeatable, and this season it was Corsia who stepped up and managed to take a map away from the colossus in close fashion. But they know as well as anyone that they're the team to beat here, and habib shared with me their prep for playoffs:
Despite being pushed to our absolute limits by Corsia on both Snakewater and Villa, we are ready to adjust, adapt and unleash our classic froyotech playoff power. We travel to the mountains and train in sage mode energy, ramping up our chakra for playoffs (..also itching and scratching for LAN). This will light the fire in all teams playoff teams, giving us their best as we will give them our best. We are looking forward and confident, may the best man win. [Praying emoji here, TFTV breaks if I include emojis]
#2: Corsia (12-3)
- Scout: branslam
- Scout: yight
- Roamer: ash
- Pocket: tripbwai
- Demoman: Alex.exe
- Medic: zilly
Pegged from the start to fill the second place slot, Corsia have had a wild ride this season. From the start of the season, the team seemed like it could come apart, with yight dropping in and out of the roster. Then not long after, the team's leader ash had to sit in the time-out corner for a month after saying some rather less than tasteful things, halting most of the team's matches for several weeks. But boy did they return with a bang, playing a close double header with froyotech and trading maps, both with 5-4 scorelines. I think it's safe to say they're the team that everyone's got their eyes on to make this playoffs interesting.
Alex.exe was able to give some words on the season, and his outlook on playoffs:
ive never played a playoffs match before and branslam has never played a full season before so considering my noob teammates are being carried by us its actually kinda incredible we dont wake up with back problems
He later added:
I'm surprised our team didn't die when ash got banned for saying a no-no word
#3: Morning Light (7-8)
- Scout: kev
- Scout: alfa
- Roamer: SOOOOOAPYMEiSTER
- Pocket: dingo
- Demoman: sighguy
- Medic: aZn
Probably the most expected result of this whole season, alfa and his motley crew of old and new have pulled into third seed with a nearly even record. This core of seasoned veterans alfa, sighguy, and dingo has filled the "solid mid-table" team slot. All eyes will be on new addition kev as he makes his season debut in playoffs against Corsia, and Invite rookie SOOOOOAPYMEiSTER, who will be making his first playoffs appearance. However the Roamer seems confident going into it, saying:
i never freeze.
#4: Witness Gaming (6-9)
- Scout: yosh
- Scout: smilez
- Roamer: Walrex
- Pocket: Rio
- Demoman: SIN K4RMA
- Medic: virgil
Ah Witness Gaming, what a ride it's been. This season's up and coming underdogs seemed like they would fall just short of playoffs, but in the last seconds, a miracle graced them. Due to WONDERWALL's (originally slowbr0) flagrant use of fakenicks in casted matches, netting them two major penalties, and allowing the squad into the last slot. They're underdogs for sure, but that won't stop these climbers from taking this chance to prove their worth at the top. In this theme, SIN K4RMA told me:
In order to beat froyo and the other team in playoffs im going to have to break my own limits
Round 1: froyotech vs Witness Gaming
Previous encounters - W1A: 5-0 froyotech | W3B: 4-0 froyotech (KOTH) | W6A: 4-0 froyotech (KOTH)
Matching up with froyotech in your first round is the grim fate of every bottom playoffs team, but it is what must be done. The record isn't kind to Witness Gaming but as in any matchup, nothing is impossible.
Round 1: Corsia vs Morning Light
Previous encounters - W2B: 3-4 Morning Light | W5A: 3-5 Corsia | W7B: 5-0 Corsia
Despite taking their first matchup in week 2B, it seems that the late season has been far kinder to Corsia, and their overall record puts them comfortably ahead of Morning Light. However, we have yet to see how the complexion of Morning Light has changed since adding kev in the time since the regular season. Anything could happen, but I think it's safe to say that this match is favored towards Corsia.
