Whenever I tab out and go back in the game my fps drop from 300~ max to around 110~ max.
I know that one solution to make tf2 more alt tabbing friendly is to make the game borderless but I understood from people that it makes some kind of input lag ( is that true?). If it is, is there a different solution to the problem?

I know fuck all about frames and alt tabbing is probably what fucks my frames but usually hudreloadscheme boosts my frames up when they dip below 100.

not sure but i always heard that if you are playing on a non-native aspect ratio or resolution that this could mess with things while alt tabbing, could be that

Yup, I used to have that exact problem, hud_reloadscheme fixed it. Just bind it to a key and do it whenever you tab back in-game.

(this might not be it but might be worth trying)
when the game is not in focus the source engine reduces its fps/usage so that you can do whatever outside of the game. This is an issue for producers cause we often have to alt tab out, so to fix it we use the command
engine_no_focus_sleep 0
Hope this helps.
