.
I personally love this HUD, but do you think you could just make another folder with/without health cross so you don't have to go through the effort of deleting all those files?
EDIT: nvm, you got it! thanks!

Open up the .vpk file with GCFScape, then right click the materials folder and click extract, then extract it to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Team Fortress 2\tf\custom\Mystuff
(It doesn't matter what the "Mystuff" folder is called, you can name it icons or whatever you want)

How can I extract the A&D backpack page switching to my broeselhud? I won't use your HUD but I hope you don't mind helping me anyway :)
Edit: Well, that was easier than it looked. Extract resource/ui/econ/BackpackPanel.res from tf2_misc_dir.vpk, put the res in custom/userstuff/resource/ui/econ, open it and change those two things:
under "PrevPageButton"
"labelText" "&A" instead of "labelText" "<"
under "NextPageButton"
"labelText" "&D" instead of "labelText" ">"
This is of course if you want the original look with only A&D page switching added. If you like odhud's backpack design, you might as well use his resource/ui/econ/BackpackPanel.res file.
