A group of about 10 of us from the cracked forums have recently gotten back into DayZ, playing the Origins meta mod. It allows for base building and makeshift armor for cars (corrugated sheets over your tires and stuff like that). Is there anyone here that still plays this buggy mess of a masterpiece?

We all sort of stopped during the hacking hijinks that happened after the Steam Summer sale last year caused the numbers (and shitheads) to swell into the hundreds of thousands. The popularity has waned a bit, taking a lot of the hackers and shitheads with it, so the game is actually fun again!

We play on 88.150.201.18:17802, if anyone is interested in joining us sometime!

Origins is pretty fun, and the taviana map is beautiful, however hackers are still a huge problem. Also, a lot of areas on taviana (like the NPP and race track) spawn almost no loot, making a lot of areas totally pointless to visit.

I play it once in a while, but I'm really just waiting for the standalone to come out.

Does anyone have any idea when the standalone comes out, or even a clue? I really don't want to buy the arma games to play a completely different game, esp since I have no clue if I will like it. From what I understand, you need huge (chucks) amounts of time to make to game fun. I usually only have two hours at a time to play.

very, very soon. they are going to be doing an alpha and beta like how minecraft did theirs. they are going to keep adding content on a weekly basis or so. the initial alpha wont have vehicles, and the weapon selection will be limited, but with the new server/client architecture they have for it hackers shouldnt be a problem.

and really it depends on how YOU like to play the game for the fun factor. some people like to grab a gun and go play CoD in one of the big cities. personally, i find dayz to be the most fun when you play the long term game. survive, establish a camp and horde weapons/supplies/vehicles. search for other camps and raid the areas of the map with high end military loot spawns. its also incredibly fun playing with a group of friends, and actively playing against a rival group. constantly trying to find each others base and hunt each other down... so much fun.

think he said 6 months from E3 is release, so alpha/beta should be sooner.

or maybe 6 months to alpha.
