Here are some tricks that I am using that helps with RSI, Playing Russian style helps me as it encourages better posture and doesn't put as much strain on my arms.
I also recently installed this program:

You can set it to go off regularly at set intervals, when it does, it will overlay your screen with a message reminding you to take a small rest, or walk you through stretches for an amount of time you can set.
I've only been using this program for a day, however I feel much better than I usually do. I recommend it to anyone else who uses the PC for long sessions.

Damn, I had no idea this happens. My mom got severe carpel tunnel syndrome in her forearms from using the computer and had to go through surgery to correct it. I wasn't aware of the muscle spasms though. That sounds like it really sucked.
I'm glad to hear that it's gotten better for you, and I wish you luck in the future!

I tried Russian style, but it makes my wrist more uncomfortable. :<
I don't know if I'm doing it wrong or what...
I do often take my hands off the keyboard/mouse and give them a quick stretch though.
While we're on the subject: give your eyes frequent micro breaks (focus on something that isn't the same distance as the monitor). I didn't really do that for a long time, and now I kinda need glasses when I'm out and about.
