Hi there, digitalpanther here.
[WARNING- LONG STORY AHEAD ^^]
Recently, I have been wanting to get into the competitive scene of TF2. Originally I wanted to play spy (my main) in a highlander team; but that never happened :(. So then I wanted to get into 6s, as a roamer (so that I could offclass... AS A SPY MWAHAHAHA), but THAT didn't happen either. I realised that if I wanted to get a team, I would have to make one. And I wanted to do it with my friends.
I had one problem, I only have one friend who plays TF2.
So I went round looking for modes of the game for 2 players; which is where I found ultiduo. Judging by the amount of footage on YouTube, and in the forums - I know that ultiduo isn't the most popular thing, but I think it is really cool.
I could not find, though, any open tournaments for ultiduo. (Something like UGC). Am I missing something? Is there a tournament which I haven't heard of?
After contemplating this problem, I thought about making my own tournament. I have a server, with the map installed and ultiduo configs. I have a teammate, and we know about the game mode. The only thing is, there is nobody to play against.
So my question to you, my friends at teamfortress.tv, are there any ultiduo tournaments? Or should I make my own, and if I do, will anyone be interested?
Thank you,
digitalpanther

I play ultiduo with people sometimes. Let's play some videogames.

I would suggest you start a steam group for some ultiduo matches, post said link here, get some people to join it, post announcements with the server ip and get some ultiduo action right away. Or wait for the off-season for a tournament, usually those happen during those times.

Oh ok, thanks.
So there aren't any tournaments happening now?

The main competitive gamemodes which have regular seasons are 6v6 and Highlander. That being said, there are also tournaments for other competitive gamemodes (bball, mge and ultiduo being the more popular ones apart from the 2 main ones) these formats occasionally have cups or tournaments as well but never in regular seasons and very often they are even sponsored or organized by community members.
If you want to get into the competitive scene and seeing you are from UK the correct place to go would be ETF2L , the site also has a really in depth recruitment system so you shouldn't have much difficulty finding a div6 team. Alternatively you can post in the ETF2L forums and ask for help. Also the EU community has a Mix practice group for newbie players you might wanna join, probably your best bet as well.
Now, I would strongly advise against organizing your own tournament especially if you're not familiar with the competitive scene. Also we at comp.tf are thinking about sponsoring a ultiduo/bball tournament very soon so I would look out for it.
Edit: And no afaik there are no ultiduo or mge tournaments going on at the moment

Ok, thanks for the helpful reply. I'll keep my eyes open for the comp.tf tournament :D
I'll also check out the other links.

ETF2L.org occasionally runs Ultiduo tournaments, people also just organise fun tournaments themselves sometimes and announce it in these very forums.

Also, a thought just popped into my mind. Is there an equivalent to tf2lobby for ultiduo?

digitalpantherAlso, a thought just popped into my mind. Is there an equivalent to tf2lobby for ultiduo?
No. This has been an idea for a long time and I have suggested before the implementation of bball and ultiduo matchmaking in popular pickup sites but it hasn't happened yet. While we're talking about pickups, you might wanna check tf2pickup.net which is atm the most popular 6v6 pickup site in europe. It's generally a much higher level than tf2lobby and it also requires using mumble for communication, hence makin it much better to practise than tf2lobby as well.
Also I wouldn't want to discourage you and your friend from playing 6v6, it should be fairly easy to find a team where you both can enter and play together, just scroll through the recruitment section of etf2l or post on the forums for teams looking for more than 1 player or even new players ina similar situation than you.
