1. You want their league support (stats/match scheduling/pugs/scrim servers/forums/admins/support)

Stats - Could be taken care of with sizzling stats or something similar. It wouldn't be the exact same experience, but I think we could make it work just fine.

Match scheduling - ESEA's match scheduling is absolutely nothing to speak of. It's mediocre. If something unfortunate happens or two teams just can't agree on a day within about four days, then it's either a forfeit or a coin toss. Sick system.

Pugs - Never used.

Scrim servers - Seldom used.

Forums - Never used.

Admins - l0l.

Support - Submit a trouble ticket.

I'm not really pushing to stay with ESEA or to go elsewhere, but making league support a point for trying to convince someone to stay with ESEA is just not that great.

radium If CEVO is to be taken seriously as a replacement for ESEA....

Stop saying that CEVO is "replacing" ESEA!! That is not the goal or the focus!! ESEA can be here and is an important piece for invite. Again I think everyone recognizes that. CEVO needs to be supported for a community based league that ESEA is not currently giving. Period. If people want ESEA lan and ESEA then play it! No one is stopping you here. There should not be any reason why the community should be able to support CEVO in having a league they can call home. Invite needs ESEA and lan as CEVO at this point cannot compete with the ESEA lan and prize pot. At least not at this point. That does not mean it wont be able to in the future.

All this bickering back and forth because people have it in their heads it is one or the other. If teams choose CEVO over ESEA because of what happened then great. If they want to play both to keep ESEA going and help support CEVO then fine. If people just play ESEA and not support CEVO then I don't ever want to hear again how TF2 doesn't have a good community league and how ESEA is shit ever again!!!! CEVO and I are giving you an opportunity to build a league that is "community based and supported". It is simply up to the community to now step up to the plate, show their support and help us make it happen. If ESEA lives then great, our invite players can still fight it out for the lan that ESEA provides; then go for it guys! I wish you luck! I wish none of you any ill will and still hold you in high regard.

And you're right. I guess that what I was trying to say was that LAN is the literal end game for all players and also invite players. iT/Mixup is the final boss. It's a dumb metaphor anyways

i watch rr's stream enough can we stop with all the rpg/mmo metaphors ( ͡ʘ ͜ʖ ͡ʘ)

Thank you for the clarification. This is the first time that I've heard someone say that CEVO is NOT going to replace ESEA. This needed to be said a while back. I look forward to CEVO updates as they come along.

I'll be doing both leagues next season.

It is an interesting point of view that TF2 needs invite. No offense but if it wasn't for the support of OPEN, IM and MAIN teams there wouldn't be an invite with a prize pot of over 14k+. The lower brackets dont get the respect they all deserve. They are the foundation to invite. Isn't this the really big elephant in the room? I have always told new invite teams (new ones going into invite) that I have sponsored and all of you who know me should remember these words, "Dont ever forget where you have come from and who supported you getting here." If ESEA really does care about TF2 and Lan ect I guess they will keep things going! Hmmmmmmm funny how the world turns.

i played in open back before there was intermediate or main. i never expected to get respect for playing in open. i played with the goal of making invite in mind and finally getting recognized and noticed there. the only thing that should really be getting casted at all in open/im/main is playoffs. that's not to say if someone wants to cast a lower division game they shouldn't, the more casted games the merrier. but honestly its regular season and invite matches are played at a much higher skill level and more interesting to watch, if you want recognition get better and make invite. don't expect it handed to you while you're still playing against weaker competition.

thats not to say im trying to shit on newer players. but if your goal is to get recognized then keep practicing and keep getting better and eventually you will be. just enjoy it, have fun. honestly some of the most fun i had playing the game was back when i was in open/ugc. there was so much competition and i had clear goals that i wanted to achieve.

harbleuHildrethUS is bigger than Europe and slightly more expensive, but for a country that prides itself for doing things bigger and better than any other nation on earth, it shouldn't be a problem right?you do know that nobody besides rednecks and idiots actually believes that, right? also did you just try to imply that pride will help pay the extra amount it costs to attend lan here? i'll have to let them know that next time i book my flight.HildrethRemember, I-series is to, a community LAN based in the UK in which during the summer, the European TF2 community has turned into the best TF2 event of the year.a community lan with tons of sponsor support and piggybacking off an already huge lan event. there are only 3 lans i can think of that have that here, and only one that is central. quakecon would be the only possible option right now. ETS and PAX are both east coast and would make it too hard for anyone from cali to attend.HildrethIt can be done, don't delude yourselves that is can't. It just requires people to actually pull out the stops and sacrifice things, even if it is mostly focusing on one side of the country to begin with, the others will flock in. For i-series, majority of people in attendance are from Western Europe but we do have a lot of Eastern/Central/Scandinavians attend. Only the community can make it happen though...again please don't try to compare european lans to american ones. flights in europe cost maybe half of what they do here. if a flight to texas only cost me $150 i would be fine paying the whole trip myself every 4 months. i agree a community driven lan is possible and i would love to see it happen, but to try and argue that because the i-series lan works that one would work as simply here is completely ignoring all of the differences between our continents. if we wanted to only have 1 huge lan a year like europe does then that's fine with me, but it better be a damn good one and people better attend. i feel that if we switched over to this new system everyone wants most people wouldn't even attend a lan because they're either too young or they wouldn't have $500 to pay for flights and hotels to attend it.

I-series is an example of the power of community in TF2, it's a worthwhile comparison to any community driven project. The differences in continent act only as barriers, a big community LAN with an attractive prize pool, a selection of invite players + a good amount of players attending AND ESEA LAN? Those two things together would be amazing.

Also why didn't you answer my questions for HL interview, I worked hard on them. :(

If we don't need their league support and don't want LAN then as long as league support is taken care of in some other way there is no point in staying with ESEA.

I'm saying there's no point in staying with ESEA since we take care of all that stuff anyways. Or CEVO would have to. or whatever.

maybe i just had a different mentality back when i was new. i never thought a game of mine was worth casting until i made playoffs with vires s5 and got to the finals.

have people been parading around begging to be casted? Most people I see asking for open matches to be casted aren't the players in that match, but rather people who want to watch it.

Mr_Owli can tell you that there are quite a few people who will play where the invite players play, because that's where the best competition is. Like it or not, they do hold a pretty sizable portion of the community in their hands,

If that's true and they are "leaders" (is that a fair term to give them, given that they have a sizeable portion of the community in their hands?) isn't their moral, or social responsibilities as leaders to do what's the best for everyone in the community? And since ESEA has acted unethically(breaking of consumer trust) shouldn't invite responsibly lead us away from ESEA?

Forgive me if there's something i'm missing, but if they are acting for the very best interest of their followers (as leaders usually should do) shouldn't they give up ESEA/ESEA lan. i mean i don't know lan won't magically make tf2 into a super E-sport title, so is its use pretty much for invite players? And if invite players just want to act out what's best for themselves(and not their followers which you apparently stated they have) shouldn't we just say fuck them?

I honestly don't care, however it seems like the defense for ESEA is invite players want a LAN, and therefore others should stick around to keep funding it. And apparently others actually will stick around just because invite players tell them to/stick around themselves?(that's just what i got from you saying other will follow them)

haven't seen this at all. as other people were stating, it gets requested by players OUTSIDE of the team that could get casted. and it has nothing to do with entitlement. Unlike Invite players who are so used to being casted that it is pretty much meaningless to them, us lower division shitties get excited when we might get casted.

harbleumaybe i just had a different mentality back when i was new. i never thought a game of mine was worth casting until i made playoffs with vires s5 and got to the finals.

its not being humble when its true. or are you implying that i was never bad at this game? which if thats the case then thank you :3.

shocka1haven't seen this at all. as other people were stating, it gets requested by players OUTSIDE of the team that could get casted. and it has nothing to do with entitlement. Unlike Invite players who are so used to being casted that it is pretty much meaningless to them, us lower division shitties get excited when we might get casted.

thats sad that you refer to yourself as a shitty :( why would you do that? its still a sense of entitlement from lower level players in general that their matches deserve to be casted. nobody is stopping anyone from those divisions from casting games in their own division, but the truth is more people like watching NFL over high school football. its the same with invite and open.

im speaking from past experience. good job editing my quote though to make me look like a dick.
I didn't edit, I paraphrased for you.
harbleu invite matches are played at a much higher skill level and more interesting to watch, if you want recognition get better and make invite. don't expect it handed to you while you're still playing against weaker competition.

The AG vs Street Hoops game was better than any other invite game this season. You aren't playing against weak competition in lower levels because you are around the same skill level as the people you are playing against. If anything, invite is one of the most boring leagues to watch because we pretty much already know who is going to get first, second, and third.

harbleuthen you did a really bad job at it, since you completely destroyed the original message/intent behind my post.

Maybe you should read again what you wrote. Unless you want to edit it again, as you have already once.

harbleuits not being humble when its true. or are you implying that i was never bad at this game? which if thats the case then thank you :3.

I think you're trolling at this point. Unless, again, you completely missed the point. I was correlating skill increase with an elevation in condescension

harbleuthats sad that you refer to yourself as a shitty :( why would you do that?

again, you're probably trolling. but if not, I was clearly mocking you.

harbleuits still a sense of entitlement from lower level players in general that their matches deserve to be casted. nobody is stopping anyone from those divisions from casting games in their own division, but the truth is more people like watching NFL over high school football. its the same with invite and open.

you keep proving my point with every post. do you not see how oblivious you are?

I thought people played this game because they like it and they enjoy the competitiveness of it? I don't remember someone ever telling me, "I play this game because I want to be casted." - That's the people you are referring to and they don't exist here.

People who watch certain teams closely will request that a match be casted. It's about TF2 as a community, not just the higher ups. You probably don't think anyone besides Invite deserve power rankings either, do you? I mean, what is the point of power rankings? To possibly learn more about other teams and cast matches that are "supposed" to be good according to their records and ranks. But I guess if people read those, or follow certain teams close in general, they shouldn't request for those teams to be casted because the level of play is way too low, right?

The highschool to NFL analogy is more flawed than your morale. Does a High School football team donate to the NFL so they can get to the superbowl [LAN]? Do they get sponsored by someone like AG who will sponsor multiple levels of play? (High School[open], College[IM], Pros[main/invite])

As you can see, this is a community based game. We all support each other. We are supposed to help each other in every way we can, whether it's casts/donations/websites/sizzlingstats/etc...And you are not being cooperative by trying to segregate Invite.

Get off your high horse and realize that some of us paid for you to get on that horse to begin with...
