I'm opening a Thread for: Is pyro competitive atm? ty
Greetings Mundoverso,
Can you give us some background into your question? Specifically, in what regards are you asking this question: Is pyro a viable class selection is 6's, HL, 8's, pubs, 32-player servers, etc.?
I don't want to simply shut down your answer with a "no", and in order to be constructive in a response, I (and I'm assuming a couple others) need a bit more data.
Thanks in advance!

It's viable against teams that don't know how to counter it, but most teams can easily have the scouts chip him away pretty soon. It's not as mobile, it's skill ceiling is relatively low, you have a very limited range, and it's pretty un-fun to play against.
Pyro is great for HL sure, but pretty lame in 6s.
(I'm assuming that's what you're talking about)

And you can't be that shocked by such a short response to that broad question...

Oh ty, just i'm questing if pyro is viable on whatever map/ with whatever players, if just with the combo Critic/change wep is viable at helping the team, doing dmg...

You're an awesome idiot
You're an awesome idiot
at this point you are too dumb to realize how dumb you are
Pyro is only good at helping the combo avoid damage and airblast away ubers. His only role in 6's is last defense because he's complete shit at anything bigger than that.

If you are serious, let's start with the format and go from there.
Are you talking about 6's full time? Only if you want a ton of hate heading your way and extreme difficulty finding a team. It is possible, but it kind of breaks up the fun. It's like playing a game of chess with someone that insists on attacking with knights, and not moving their pawns at all... It's a tactic that can work... just isn't a ton of fun to play against.
6's situationally? Competitive, yes. Frowned on by some, so wear a helmet.
HL: come on... you shouldn't need to ask this question.

Mundoverso, you're asking a very broad question without much knowledge about the subject you're asking about (competitive tf2).
Because this lack of knowledge isn't your fault, I'm explaining to you now that this is a question that gets asked a lot. It's one of the most-asked questions by newer players looking to get into competitive because Pyro is (1) relatively easy and (2) also pretty fun for some people. It's an easy first class to "main" because it has abilities and functions unique to it from other classes (airblast, mainly).
What you're facing now is a lot of negativity because most players on this forum (including myself) have played this game more than you, and more than you can really imagine in some cases. They've seen this question over and over again from fresh-faced players who want to play their main competitively.
In case you weren't aware, there are multiple competitive formats in TF2. The main formats are Highlander (9v9, 1 player of each class per team) and 6s (6v6, 1 medic, 1 demo, 2 soldiers and 2 scouts, with the Scouts or sometimes a Soldier "offclassing" to one of the other classes that fits the exact situation they need at that very moment). Obviously Pyro is viable in HL as there is required to be one Pyro per team.
Beyond the lower levels of 6s, Pyro is not viable full-time. End of story. People have thought about this and tried it repeatedly and, outside of very specific gimmicky plays that only work very rarely, it's not going to happen.
Also, don't call people idiots. It doesn't help your case.
Signed,
A Pyro Main

Pyro is trending. Everyone will be using that shit in 2014. Practice (HAHAHAHAHA) up.
I feel like I could run pyro on gullywash for everything other than mids. The map is small enough for his lack of mobility to be a none issue.
i main pyro, i often find myself having a difficult time being useful to my teammates in competitive.
While the answer to the question "Is pyro viable?" is "no" in 6s, and "duh" in HL, there is a format in witch pyro is a very, very good class, and that is 4v4. Pyro is the cookie-cutter combo in 4s, because of the lack of heavy-medic, and solly being more effective as a roaming damage class, then a pocket class.

TF2 is a fast paced game and pyro is too slow to compete. Scouts, soldiers and demos can get from point A to point B quickly, this is why they are the most used classes in 6s.
unless you're playing defense in an area that isn't wide open, you're basically useless as pyro
