displayport to vga adapter help

I have a CRT that I want to use to get 120hz+ on 640x480.

My laptop doesn't have a vga port but it does have the following:
1 x HDMI output Port (with HDCP)
1 x DisplayPort 1.2 output Port
1 x Mini DisplayPort 1.2

If I get a displayport to vga adapter will I be able to get 120hz+ on the CRT? Will there be much input lag? Is it reliable? Should I be paying for an expensive adapter or get a $20 one?

http://www.monoprice.com/Category?c_id=102&cp_id=10246&cs_id=1024609 these look great. otherwise you need multiple adapters. HDMI/DisplayPort -> DVI -> VGA.
I believe you can get up to 720p @ 120Hz over VGA.

Thanks for the response. I would definitely be playing at 640x480. Any idea about how much input lag would exist due to the fact I would be running it through an adapter?

in order to achieve more than 60Hz you need to connect your actual graphics card to the monitor, so hdmi won't work. i used this cable: (mini dp to dp) http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A7R9I2M/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 but my monitor has a displayport input

I'm pretty sure the HDMI wouldn't work if it has HDCP, my brother had the problem when even converting HDMI to DVI which doesn't require any conversion for the video, the HDCP encryption can't be carried over. Maybe there are special adaptors that work with HDCP, I'm not sure. Converting displayport to DVI, digital to digital isn't easy and until recently the adaptors were still quite expensive so trying to convert it to VGA would be more difficult, and I wouldn't be surprised if DP-VGA adaptors didn't exist at all.

They do exist... I am asking whether or not there would be massive input lag because of the adapter. Also curious if I would still be able to use ToastyX's custom resolution utility to configure the refresh rate and resolution of my CRT when it is connected to the computer through a displayport to vga adapter.

edit: to clarify further I am not interested in using HDMI. CRT monitors with HDMI don't even exist.

The input lag wouldn't be significant. And yes you'd be able to make custom resolutions as that's independent of cables and monitors. Just be sure your CRT can actually do 120hz (increment the hz bit by bit)
