Like tf2.
People say you can run CS;GO on settings you cant run tf2 on and get better fps (which is true).
So, from a technical standpoint, how is it possible to optimize a game like tf2?

spend a lot of money and change how the quip system works
Actually, source 2.0 took several years to make and is a whole new version of source, they had the time to change the way lightning work BUT HOW?
remove all the hats.
appart from the hot dogger, that can stay.
What are the specs that have low FPS on TF2?
i run tf2 with an fx-6100 x6 and gtxc 650 and do just fine with it being a massive budget build and all.
Do people actually need 300fps+?(unless they're streaming, then its obviously different)

I have a steady 240 fps with fx 6300 and r7 200 on default quality.
I was just wondering how much work it would take.

swiftwater :(
biggest drain on performance, according to FP, is still the large amount of entities that the game has to keep track of now, compared to when the game was first released. Someone suggested moving everything to a submodel which would probably help performance but would have it's own set of problems
This isn't directly TF2 related, but is about game optimization in general, so you might be interested in it

I come to find a lecture done on my university on some tf2 forums, life really is strange. It was a good watch tho.
