so basically for the past few months every time I'm in a comp match or anything competitive after time my game starts to get very choppy. it fluctuates from 30 to 150-200 constantly and at mid it just drops to 30-60 and it makes a very unplayable stuttering w/ mouselag. and sometimes if I bring up chat or something, it gets back to the normal frames and doesn't lag, but when I exit out of chat it changes back.

the video is for if I explained it terribly. (it's capped at 60fps but I'm sure you see what I mean)
my computer isn't overheating (39-40c) and I've reinstalled tf2 a few times to see if that's the problem. does anyone have suggestions?
edit: the title was supposed to be can't figure out but whatever

Hes talking about his fps you idiot, read what he wrote.
I cant help figure out why its doing this, i have had the same cause of problems but mainly in pubs figured due to the fact of 19+ players with every class shooting at once and my setup isnt fit ti handle that type of explosions and such, and as you said it intensifies the amount of fps drop u get as u get towards middle, or as you get near a large crowd of fighting. In 6's games i dont get it at all and just on the occasional updates where i had it on gullywash mid but it is fixed now.

Lag mislead me and I immediately thought latency, I saw 80 ping and figured that answered it fairly simply.
I'm a moron

well it's not like normal fps issues with bad frames bad computer.
it's normal constant fps (120+) then when the lag hits it does the whole fluctuate thing and I have to restart my game to fix it.

Try turning off any dynamic overclocking in your BIOS. (stuff like Intel Turbo Boost)
Also, if there are options for something like "cooling mode" and selections for active or passive make sure it's set to active to engage fans instead of passive which slows the CPU to regulate heat.

thanks for the advice, I tried doing some cooling options, we'll see if anything helps.

So is it only in comp? Maybe something with tournament mode or sv pure don't think that'd the reason, just throwing it out there

IIRC all that PREC does is send a record command at the beginning of every match, so I doubt that would be causing it (worth a shot though)
