My team is planning on moving up from iron to steel next season and I feel that I don't understand some of the different metas for some of these more complex maps (Metalworks, Process etc. you get the point). My team leader has been suggesting that some of us get more specialized mentors that aren't someone who mentors our whole team.

At your level you'll probably benefit from just playing the game! :)
If you want some help I'd recommend taking a look at Marxist's 9 precepts of scout and Boink's scatter school
As for learning maps, again just from playing them you'll improve greatly on them but Marxist also makes videos discussing strategies and a general but detailed run down of each map and area of map (mid, 2nd, last etc)
