Hey, so I've been dabbling in CS:GO the last few days, and I was wondering if anyone had suggestions of "necessary" game settings that I should be using. I know that in TF2, new players might not be aware how useful/necessary it is to have certain settings (i.e. enable fast weapon switch, setting FOV to 90, etc.). For example, I learned (the hard way) that I don't want "auto swap to weapon on pick-up" because it might swap my weapon in the middle of a firefight and get me killed. Are there any other similar settings you guys find are necessary, certain hud settings, etc.?

Unless you want different viewmodel settings on your gun I.E to mimic the css weapon viewmodel or if you just want to mess around with those. That's about it.

I've noticed on a few streams that when the player has died, he sees two boxes on either side of the timer, each with the total number of alive players on each team. However for me, it's a line of boxes, where each one disappears when that player has died. Is this a game/hud setting? Or is it from a custom hud?

You can enable that under Game Settings > HUD options > Mini-Scoreboard Style > Just Show Player Count

Disable weapon switch on pickup, change your crosshair to literally anything but the default. You can make grenade binds if you want. Glhf.

use default viewmodels, almost every smoke that you will ever learn that requires some sort of viewmodel line-up is based on them because it's the most common setting

alternatively, work really hard to learn what the same smokes are with your viewmodels

as I said, you can try to replicate them without classic viewmodels, it's just more work

and the hotbox smoke definitely isn't the only smoke that's based on viewmodel lineups

off the top of my head (and keep in mind there are way more smokes that I don't know than ones that I do): cat to ct spawn on dust 2, the old stair smoke on mirage before valve fucked it up, one of the two wall smokes on nuke outer, I'm pretty sure at least one of the smokes on season although I don't remember

cl_crosshairstyle 4
Not necessary, but most people find it much easier to aim without their crosshair moving all over the place. Now, of course, you need to be familiar with how the movement/accuracy system works in CS, so if you're not, I'd reccomend not using style 4. Crosshair is preference anyways, just putting it out there.

Platypusi wish you could disable viewmodels

You can actually use programs to do that but there is a chance you can get vac'd since it is a major change to the game.
For crosshair's I would recommend using this- http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=308490450

You can find a bunch of pro players crosshairs and you can also adjust them while in game its really cool check it out.

For video settings just use whatever your computer can handle, I use mostly low settings but shadows on high just because but the only thing that needs to be high is shadows.

For game settings if you want there is an option to take off the peoples pictures and give you a number of how many people are alive and you can also chance your hud color which I would recommend.

Last thing, I would recommend playing with left handed view models even if you are right handed. I changed to left handed view models around 3-4 months ago and love it, its partially because if you are right handed then you are right eye dominated so more room on the right side of your screen can increase your reaction times and stuff but I would just try it out.
