persona 3/4 are some of the best games ever created, although you already talked about SMT

persona 5 and fallout 4 are some of my most anticipated 'sequels' in gaming right now

dark souls? it's as western/mainstream as a jrpg can get but the entire souls series is worth trying.

Ultrazany good ones you guys could recommend me? (new to the genre)

I actually dunno what you have besides a PC so I kept it to stuff you can get on PC

  • Paper Mario 64 (Super easy to emulate these days, one of the most charming and accessible JRPGs available)
  • Paper Mario and The Thousand Year Door
  • The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (sequels are coming to Steam soon)
  • Ys 1, 2, Oath in Felghana, Origins
  • Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga & Bowser's Inside Story
  • Recettear

When Akiba's Trip comes to Steam, pick that up too.

id hardly label the souls series as a JRPG, its much more of an ARPG

You can get a emulators to play these games. As for ISOs and whatnot, you'll have to dig those up yourself

Paper Mario 64: Nintendo 64

Can't remember if Thousand Year door is Wii or GC, either way, it's the Dolphin Emulator

Trails in the Sky, Ys Series, Recettear: PC, most available on Steam

Inside Story is on the DS; I'm not quite versed on DS emulators, so you'll have to google those.

My suggestion would be Xenoblade Chronicles on the Wii. It's a long game though; thank god the emulator has an option to remove the frame limit.

I don't really know what properly defines a jrpg as a jrpg, I just picked a japenese (a)rpg

get a ps2 emulator and check out star ocean: til the end of time. the beginning is pretty dull but once it picks up, the game is amazing. suikoden 4 & 5 are also pretty good.

This thread reminded me that I need to install the translated version of Mother and play through that and Earthbound.
And speaking of Star Ocean, if you feel like it, get a PS1 emulator and try out Star Ocean: The Second Story. Pretty much the same as how Kirby described Til' the End of Time; slow at first, but by end game it's outstanding.
Another good PS1 JRPG was The Legend of Dragoon. It's turned based typical early FF style combat, but it has this neat timing/combo mechanic to spice up the combat. Very lengthy story and secret bosses 'n shit.

Also Golden Sun for the GBA. Too much of my childhood spent on that and its sequel, The Lost Age.

+1 to Dragoon and Golden Sun
(would also recommend you play through the fan translation of Mother 3, as well as the - eventual - fan-made Mother 4)

I'm just so glad someone mentioned Legend of Dragoon.
Final Fantasy 9 would be a pretty good start.
