I have a modmic 4.0, I've tested it using both my onboard soundcard and a Asus Xonar DGX (By no means is this a great soundcard). I couldn't really tell the difference so I took the DGX out. Didn't need it since I run my output through my o2+odac anyways. You should be fine with onboard honestly if you're looking to get a modmic. (As long as it is the 4.0, I can't really say anything about the older ones.) If you are unfortunate enough to not be fine with onboard, a 2$ USB will fix that shit up still.
Thread was funny when he kept trying to prove himself right. Fell to shit after he gave up. ;(

Just ordered a modmic. Anyone got reccomendations for a 30$ pci-e sound card? My onboard is beginning to die

Xonar DG/DGX.
DGX is PCI-E, but your motherboard got PCI aswell and the DG (PCI, otherwise identical) is cheaper.
How did you figure your onboard is dying though?

that or the sound blaster audigy SE, but pretty sure the xonar is worth more

I've recently gotten more money, what's the best sound card (I have no issues with refurbished and/or used) for 60 bucks
These two caught my eye

choose whats in your price range, you can usually get a better deal from other sites/used/refurbished.

you should be able to find the xonar DX at something around 60$, keep looking, on amazon it's at ~75$ but i'm pretty sure you'll be able to find it at a better price

best for fragging
I just use one of those zalman clip on mics. It's pretty decent. I've heard good things about that modmic, although its a bit pricy.
