I honestly don't think starting early is a good idea. While the listed end time of the tourney is past midnight the finals are scheduled as a bo3 at 21 cet and not even a tf2 bo3 is gonna take 3+ hours (based on the rules being 30 minute maps).
Also moving it earlier will exclude people, and especially brits, from playing due to jobs etc.

Ok I see what you mean. Bo3 grand finals at 21 CEST is perfectly acceptable.

Does this include ETF2L ruleset? Will you be following their ruling on the new weapon pickup mechanic introduced in the Gun Mettle Update or will it be allowed? I only ask since viaduct is in the map pool for the tournament and it is especially broken on that map.
Currently weapon drops are enabled. I will look into the proper handling for this and see if we can't have it added.
It's not that they're restricted automatically in ETF2L, it's just against the rules and if somebody does it and is reported for doing it, the round in which it was done is overturned.
Looking into it - ETF2L looks like they will be allowing weapon drops.
If the rules state that weapon drops are not allowed, what is the difference between simply removing the feature entirely?
It looks like on this one though, we are going to continue to allow weapon drops and keep an eye on it for a while before making any decisions on the matter.
There's no difference it'd just be difficult/impossible to remove the feature entirely afaik. Sweet, good decision and nice timings.

The times set for this event are hard times. If someone does not show up for their match at the indicated time they receive a forfeit loss.

Yes, the ETF2L forums. Or even get in contact with an ETF2L admin and see if they can make a post about it?

Not all teams are going to sign up as soon as possible, most of them need to make sure that their players can play at all or not and can't say if they are going to be available. So you should probably expect more signups next week, closer to signup deadline, when majority of teams can confirm that their players can play.

Hello Dilusive,
After a little web work it seems you are in charge of business development for Gaming Grids and also personally co founded Exertus Esports. You probably highly experienced at gaming community development and so thank you for thinking TF2 should be apart of your current venture with Razer Arena.
I wanted to highlight a couple issues which honestly transcend beyond the application of your tournament website.
The first of which is that the competitive TF2 community is a small tight knit community that really has never had vast numbers of players since it is hard for public play to translate into a competitive environment. The direction of the game as a whole went one direction and the competitive community went another. To the vast majority it is near impossible to find "fun" in comp tf2, let alone think about competing against people who play 40 hours a week.
The schedule of TF2 comp players is already highly saturated. For many seasons now comp players have had to deal with the fact that 6v6 and Highlander overlap and in some cases cause strain when it comes to having a team to compete in an "event." When you add in H1Z1, dota, and the other games people play, there is little to no room for more competition. At certain point people just want to enjoy their leisure time by moving a blob around a screen devouring other blobs.
ESEA has a monopoly on high-end comp TF2. The service is a joke in many regards but still serves as the staple of North American 6's TF2. Toss in ETF2L for Europe and you've got the two most popular leagues for TF2. ESEA usually provides little to no break between seasons. If I remember correctly during season13, it was a 4 day break for registration. I honestly cannot comment on ETF2L, but can only say that the league has done quite well for about 78 seasons now. Point being, if it comes down to playing in an event, people will always defer to ESEA, since it is considered the best, and people are paying for it. Value is implied.
The timing is also off. Right now is ESEA playoffs. People should be focusing on competing and trying to place as high as they can, take a break from high-end competition, and then come back refreshed to compete again. The last thing people are thinking of is to compete in an event that has no cash prize and no benefit (as far as I know). And even if there was a cash prize, all that would happen is that froyotech or ascent plays, wins the money, gets donations, and goes back to their routine.
What is the benefit of Razer Arena? From what I can see it is a partnership between Razer and Gaming Grids to try and compete with other web based tournament platforms in terms of amount of users and sponsors. If you provide no value, no one will play. Is there a 500 dollar startup tournament? Is there a community outreach podcast? Has Lord Enigma signed off on Razer Arena?
Organizations and sponsors have tried to help TF2 in the past, some have done more than others. But it is always the case that people are looking out for just themselves. If you are hoping for 40 teams to sign up, you need to get the "illuminated" members of the TF2 community on board. It goes much further than just posting on ETF2L or TFTV. Razer is a popular name worth over a BILLION dollars. So sorry if I come across as asking for a handout, but 95 percent of this community is likely satisfied with UGC and ESEA.
As a consumer, I am prepared to spend one more night a week playing TF2 on the Razer Arena, but I haven't been convinced, mostly because UGC satisfies that NEED.

Probably part of the planned events they don't want to divulge here and now. This one seems to be a handy event for EU teams warming up for i55.

I think posting things like this as news articles on TFTV (especially with front page images) would be really helpful. I almost missed this forum post, and to be honest there isn't much happening in the news posts anyways.

PYYYOURHello Dilusive,
After a little web work it seems you are in charge of business development for Gaming Grids and also personally co founded Exertus Esports. You probably highly experienced at gaming community development and so thank you for thinking TF2 should be apart of your current venture with Razer Arena.
Hello PYYYOUR,
Thank you for taking the time to voice your concerns and raise a few questions.
With the Frag Fest events currently in place there is a $100 prize pool split (75/25) for first and second. I understand that this is not a massive prize, but Razer was kind enough to offer this. We are running 8 events each week for CS:GO and TF2 split between the two game titles and EU and NA. Currently these tournaments are set to carry out over the next 8 weeks and we will explore extending them depending on their popularity. (THESE ARE NOT MAIN EVENTS) I really want to stress that with as much emphasis as possible. The Frag Fest events are here to add substance to the platform, give people the opportunity to try the system out if they have not done so or to compete if they have time available that day.
The platform is still under a heavy development regime with lots of changes and features underway. Razer wants the platform to cater to all gamers, not just the pros or semi-pros. With that said we obviously have our work cut out for us to meet the needs of the varying interest levels.
Currently, the tournaments do not require an entry fee, we do not have advertisements and there is no revenue generator on the platform whatsoever. The desire for this platform is not one of selfish gain. Gaming Grids and Razer came together under one vision - A kick ass gaming platform where friends can compete together or against each other with ease and minimal hassle. For gamers to be able to spawn up a tournament of their own and host events for their friends, colleagues, schoolmates or whoever it may be. We want to improve upon the professional level tools currently in place and we want to make them readily available.
I understand many of you may be satisfied with what is currently in place and you may not have time to compete on Razer Arena, there is nothing wrong with that. I do hope that you at least give the platform a shot, check out what we have available now and understand that there is significantly more to come.
I am here to chat with anyone that wants to open dialogue. I am more than happy to work with the community to ensure the best experience is delivered. I love the platform we are building and I can't wait until more of the exciting features are in place.
One final note: I feel it pertinent that I clarify I work for Gaming Grids, the development team behind Razer Arena. In no way do I represent Razer in any fashion.

Yeah you might have better luck with signups if it were on Friday/Saturday, but I don't know why teams wouldn't see this and not want to sign up. They're actually handing out free money and offering a place for teams that are taking improving etc seriously to get some experience and all that. And FREE MONEY. Try hard win one of these and pay your league fees for your team or something.

Everybody should just stop whining and sign up for the cups. The more signups there are, the higher possibility there is for increased prize pools, bigger tournaments and cups, and this will generate more interest for TF2 which will make our scene grow. You gain a lot more experience playing cups where actual money is on the line than playing a scrim. There isn't even a sign-up fee.
Also a good tip for ETF2L high/ESEA-IM teams. Play these cups even if you think you will not win, because they give a very valuable experience. All good teams have bad days, and you can really exploit this fact in one-night cups. Also, causing an upset is the greatest feeling ever.

Yes indeed, do sign up! For reference I will be adjusting the TF2 EU Wednesday event back by 1 hour. I will also be watching the timing of these events and will highly likely reduce the time between matches to further compress the overall event timing.
And as Ma3laa mentioned, FREE MONEY!

I think that once you get the platform to a point where you feel confident it'll run smoothly and has enough features, you should host a NA and an EU cup with prize money. If I recall correctly, there were two Twitch-sponsored cups in the past, with top teams attending; they were very decent events on the broadcasting side of things. I think no-one would say no to a recurring cup which could build some prestige over time; perhaps spread over a three-day weekend. "The Summer and Winter Razer Cup" seem like they could have a set place on the calendar.

wouldn't hurt to post on the UGC forums too, a lot of low level teams on there that probably don't come to tftv that much.

It's really demoralizing to see the eu tournament only has 5 signups for example but that has been a huge issue in our scene for a long time, we're very supportive vocally of other leagues / orgs when they're starting out but then we just don't care enough to actually do something and play on them. (ie: ESA, igl,CEVO, etc...)
This is a huge part our fault and I don't think this is necessarily due to our scene size, and more for being so accommodated/conformed with our current situation and not really taking action but also I feel there could be a better job promoting these leagues/cups from their part. ie: I was away for the weekend and only yesterday night saw the eu cup, and that was because AMS posted on etf2l forums to remind ppl to signup. Get in contact with some community admins to create some news posts / youtube videos, etc advertising these cups, it would surely help in the future.
tldr: lft for today's cup

i'd like to play, but i can't today... It's a shame it's hold in the middle of the summer, many players (like me) can't play in this period b/c not at home or have summer jobs. I'll try to sign up for saturday's tournament if i can find a team willing to play with me (a med).
