MARS FUCKING VOLTA - you know the new drummer for queens of the stone age? john theodore? he was the first and best drummer for them man, the rest of the band kills it and omar goes apeshit live
I got all of their shit on flac/mp3 if you want it man, add me!
the only queens of the stone age song i'm familiar with is little sister. while they're not prog, i'm still curious as to what songs or albums i should listen to from them that'll get me more into them.
I'm mostly going to list older prog metal bands simply because they get overlooked because they're not djent.
Watchtower (Ron and Alex Jarzombek's first group). Really weird progmetal from the 80s with a little bit of a Rush vibe.
Psychotic Waltz. Imagine a much more metal Jethro Tull with a badass singer (Buddy Lackey/ Devon Graves). He appeared on a few recent Ayreon albums and also fronted Deadsoul Tribe.
Symphony X. Classic prog metal from the 1st gen and always puts out good music.
Queensryche. Geoff Tate is a great singer and Operation Mindcrime is the first great prog metal concept album.
Cloudkicker (He's known on the internet, but he's not really too big). He used to be the guy from in Columbus but now I think he's in Pittsburgh.
Novallo is always pretty cool, I'm friends with their lead guitarist.
Cynic's Focus was probably the greatest record to come out of 90s florida death metal.
Gordian Knot is probably my favorite instrumental group from the 90s, put out consistently good music.

I actually really like the instrumentals of most prog metal but it seems like every time the vocals ruin it for me, primary example being Dream Theater
rowpiecesCOHEED AND CAMBRIA
b4nny sub detected.
I'm addicted to For the Power and the Glory right now myself, waffleb.
No one said Arcturus yet, so I'll throw that in here.

Aghora are also nice but mostly because of Sean Malone. Cynic and Gordian Knot were already mentioned so I figured someone had to finish up the shit he's been in.
Thy Catafalque have 2 of their albums (including the one with this song) for free on their bandcamp.
Surprised not many people have mentioned DT
I can understand if you don't like the vocals, but the instrumental part of this is Kreygasm

e: i think i just realised why no one mentioned dream theater - the first band that comes to mind when prog metal is mentioned *facepalm*
