recently ive noticed a bit of lag from my wifi so i did a speed test directly from the modem to my computer and compared that with my wifi (which ended being half of my connection speed). im pretty bad with networking so the stuff i search on google doesnt really help me.

i have a dlink dir-810l dualband router set on 2.4 ghz

any solutions to help get my speed back or is it time to buy a new router?

Did you recently change anything? Did you move any furniture around? Did you move any electronics in between your router and your computer?

A lot of stuff can interfere with your wifi signal and how it bounces around your house. Some electronics can really interfere with the wifi signal (microwaves especially), and if you recently moved some large furniture around it could be blocking the router's wifi.

You could always try getting a wifi range extender and setting it up halfway between your router and your computer to boost the signal.

1) i cant think of anything ive changed recently
2) nothing major. router is in the same spot
3) i do not have any other electronics around my router or my computer besides my phone (always turned off)

the router is in the room beside my computer's so i dont think getting an extender is necessary

bump

i found a temporary solution for now where i just reset my network on the router page but the speed eventually drops within an hour. looking for a permanent solution

found a solution. started to use a different firmware called dd-wrt and it works great but theres one more problem

my ethernet bridge w/ internet access through my laptop stopped working after i installed dd-wrt. i normally use this to hook up my desktop to my laptop for internet

are there any options to help enable it again: https://www.dd-wrt.com/demo/
