ETF2L Season 23 details emerge as signups open

The ETF2L, home of Europe's top flight competition, has announced their 23rd season (AFS still doesn't count) and confirmed the all-important dates and signup details. Specifics on maps, unlocks, and prizes are yet to be finalised, but you can read the full announcement here.

Perhaps this the first you have heard it, or you might just sitting on the fence? Why not head over to the legendary hive of scum and villainy that is the ETF2L Recruitment section to size up the lucrative employment prospects. Lacking connections? Find like-minded people on TF2Center and TF2Pickup and start something beautiful.

Already monstrous roster movements are registering on our news seismometer which can only be expected to intensify as we move towards the signup deadline on January 21st at 21:00 CET. Note that Premiership signups are closing two days earlier on January 18th to accommodate potential qualification games.

Pre-Season Playoffs: January 19th – January 21th
Publishing of Provisional Divisions: January 21th, 23:00 CET
Main Season: January 24th – March 10th (7 Weeks)
High/Mid/Open Playoffs: March 13th – March 27th
Premiership Playoffs: March 17th & 20th

In terms of teams in the top tier, Reason Gaming, Full Tilt, LEGO and Foreskings look set to claim their guaranteed Premiership spots. Uncertainty looms over Danger Dogs and top5rocket who potentially will have to play the relegation match that has been hanging over them since early December.

A possible four openings in the Premiership is already drawing forth contenders new and old with Publiclir, Team Infused, dd + 5 friends, sonic enthusiasts and Planet Express all calling dibs and six whole days remaining for new challengers to enter.

Although the full Premiership picture is still unclear, ETF2L have confirmed that they will be (re)adding a fourth playoff spot and an additional match day for end of season playoffs. What exactly the teams will be playing for (beyond pride) is also yet to be announced, but when quizzed, Head Admin Sonny Black was keen to point out that he is currently working to pay out all currently outstanding prize money now that he is back from his Canadian sabbatical.

It might still be 8 months until Insomnia 58, but with Gamers Assembly set for a €3,000 Easter explosion one week after the ETF2L's finale you can be sure that Season 23 will be a closely fought one.

The whole point of prize money in a competition is give teams a reason to sign up. If you can't announce prize money before the season starts then you might as well not have it. Seriously, use the money that people don't actually care about to make the website not a piece of shit or something else actually useful.

That doesn't answer my question. I was asking how many teams will be in the Pre-season Playoffs and how many in those playoffs will be put to prem and how many to high. "A possible 4 openings in the premiership" doesn't answer my question. "A possible 4 openings in the premiership" doesn't mean that 4 teams from the playoffs will go to Prem you mong. I haven't got my prize money from Season 20, the season where the emphasis on the fundraiser was to have a bigger prizepool for prem and to have a prizepot for all other divisions (Open, Mid, High)

Last time I contacted Sonny Black for the money (after he removed me on steam like for the seventh time), I checked his steam and he was playing CSGO MM and didn't respond to my IRC message.

That's because ESEA is a company dealing with $500k LANs. ETF2L is a volunteer org that has to scrounge around for money every season.

How many teams will be in the Pre-season playoffs and how many of the teams in those playoffs will advance to prem and how many will be put in high. All I asked was a simple question. I would estimate 3 teams in the playoffs and 2 shoved straight in, that's how I'd do it. ownage squad vs. ddf5 vs. Infused in playoffs.

The reason nobody is answering is because we don't know the answer to the exact structure of the playoffs. If someone knew they'd tell you. There are 4 confirmed Prem teams and around 5/6 potential Prem teams.

I would estimate 3 teams in the playoffs and 2 shoved straight in, that's how I'd do it. ownage squad vs. ddf5 vs. Infused in playoffs.
