CrossFire Issues

So I know the TF2 doesn't really use CrossFire, I figured this won't be a problem. It doesn't use it. Whatever. I can not even worry about it. Turns out having CrossFire on causes really weird graphical glitches on skinned weapons.

I even went so far as to try turning off CrossFire Mode via Radeon Settings. The problem persisted. Absolutely no effecct. The only solution that fixed this was to go into additional settings and completely disable crossfire, rendering my second graphics card disabled and basically a 500 USD weight in my case.

I was mostly curious if anyone has gotten this same issue, or if they have an AMD CrossFire setup that works and if so, what potential variables allowed this to work for you. To be clear, I am aware what TF2 does with Nvidia's SLI. I have an SLI enabled computer as well so people who inevitably start jeering red or green aren't really being helpful.

I don't know of any cfg command to disable the second GPU in source, I don't know why TF2 isn't listening to my request to disable my second card in Radeon Settings and I don't believe the source engine uses .ini

TF2 isn't the one that needs to listen to a request, the driver is the one that needs to force that request. Sounds to me like yet another bug with Radeon Settings. Does CCC have per-application settings? Can you disable CFX on a per-application basis? If so just disable it for hl2.exe, since you shouldn't need it for any Source games.

I used to use crossfire HD 5850's I only ever got it to work without bugs by unplugging the second card when i didn't need it.

CCC used to have per application settings, Radeon Settings doesn't appear to though. It can load executables in if you direct it to them, but I just tried with hl2.exe and the problem appears to persist. It's really odd that it's just the weapon skins that are doing this. All normal textures are appearing fine.

This is just an update: Crossfire will work properly (as in completely ignore my second video card but not require disabling) if I set launch options to -windowed -noborder which.... Isn't really a solution, but at least I can play TF2 at full resolution without having to have a worthless card in the system. Just following up with more information.

If tf2 is ignoring your second card you are playing without crossfire. What's the difference to globally disabling it for the duration of your gameplay? Aren't you just making this complicated for yourself?

What? How is setting two launch options in steam more complicated than going into Radeon settings, then into additional options, then disabling crossfire, then having my computer spend two seconds flickering as it disables a card, every single time I launch tf2? And yes I'm not running crossfire on tf2 if the second gpu is under 0 load but I don't want tf2 to run in crossfire anyway. I just want crossfire globally enabled for everything else and while it was globally enabled, TF2 was having texture glitches and nothing I could do software side was fixing the problem. Symantics are good and all, but I'll happily forgo them if I don't necessitate them to simply post an update.

And I have no idea what 5770s do to TF2 since I think the gpu is very different than my R9 fury crossfire setup.
