Since around Tough Break my tf2 has had like a 35% chance of straight up crashing when I start it up. It loads into a black screen and I have to close it through the windows prompt.
I've already validated my TF2, it said there were files that were re-acquired but it didn't seem to fix it.

I had this issue for a while as well. What ended up fixing it for me was disabling steam overlay.

Launch options? Quality configs? Renamed custom and tried launching with -default?

i think its related to people who use Flathud
