Hopefully we've all had a chance to play matchmaking a bit, and I thought this would be a good time for us to compare notes and figure out how the system works. Here's some questions that I have, but feel free to bring up more:
1) How are you matched up with other players?
2) Do you have a hidden MMR?
3) How does the system choose a server location for your match?
4) How does the abandoning system work? If you time out of a game do you get abandon status?
5) What is the longest queue time you've experienced?
6) Approximately how many wins does it take to get from rank X to rank Y?
7) Does it require more wins to rank up when you reach higher ranks?
8) Do you lose experience for your rank when you lose? (I've noticed you don't lose any sometimes)
9) Is it possible to derank if you lose enough times?
10) Have your matches gotten more challenging as you continue to rank up?

You lose more exp for losing than you do for winning idk if that's how it works in other games but it blowssss

I have noticed this late at night too. Thankfully every time this happened someone else abandoned before the match started. :>
Also, losing a fun relatively even game and getting nothing out of it is somewhat annoying.

1) How are you matched up with other players?
Seemingly random. I have gotten sent to Australian servers more than once.
2) Do you have a hidden MMR?
???
3) How does the system choose a server location for your match?
Usually one under 100 ping but i have had weird mach ups here and there.
4) How does the abandoning system work? If you time out of a game do you get abandon status?
It isn't strict enough. You get low priority for 5 minutes if you abandon.
5) What is the longest queue time you've experienced?
no more than 5 minutes
6) Approximately how many wins does it take to get from rank X to rank Y?
8
7) Does it require more wins to rank up when you reach higher ranks?
haven't noticed
8) Do you lose experience for your rank when you lose? (I've noticed you don't lose any sometimes)
Yes
9) Is it possible to derank if you lose enough times?
Yes
10) Have your matches gotten more challenging as you continue to rank up?
No

1) on stress tests it was 1:4 I played against full stack, the rest is mostly 2-3 people stacked together; basically its what you might see on lobby: sometimes you get a full stack of competitive players, sometimes literally 6 pubbers or just unknown players with few experience
3) gives me Luxembourg servers most of the time which is great, finally I can play competitive with 30-40 ping
4) if you didnt reconnect in 3-4 mins then yes
6) it was ~8 winstreak for me to rank from 3rd to 4th, about 10 I would say
8) yes
10) not really

1) I have noticed that if you don't stack with 6 players, you get matched against stacked teams more. For example me and my friends had a stack of 6 players and we were never matched against opposing 6 man comp. players stack, but when it was only 4 of us stacking, we had more games against 6 man comp. players stacks.
3) Random, always been either Luxembourg or Stockholm
5) 3 minutes, with a penalized player. usually under 1 minute without penalized player(s)
6) Really depends against who we got matched against, as of now I noticed that if you get matched against higher ranks, you get more exp/elo on win, if you get matched against lower ranks, you don't get as much. But I would say it takes from 10-12 games to rank up.
7) Maybe
8) Yes, way more than you would gain.
9) Never experienced, but I guess it's possible
10) As of right now, TF2 team didn't implement the system that matches you against similar or team average rank, so most of the games were against Rank 1 players. Didn't get challenging.
