Game was crashing so I removed my custom folder and everything and it still crashed

Try a different server, and try -default. You can also verify game cache.

When I had this, I disabled shadows in my fps config, which fixed it

edit: changelog for new update contains this:
- Fixed client crash related to custom HUDs

so maybe that's it
