I would suggest looking for an open team if you really want to be good.

open is a pretty wide skill range, with a team of people that all want to improve you can make real strides

Open is called open because it's open for anyone to join. There are some teams that will roll you but that's just a learning experience. You will learn more in one season of open than you would learn in 3 season of any UGC league.
If you have any questions add me steamcommunity.com/id/flufn

Since this current season just started, I would say it'll take some time before any team is looking for players. Also, Newbie Mixes do team drives to get new players together, to play open, at the start of each season. If you can't find a team, maybe that could be a start for you in ESEA.

you aren't going to have much luck as we are only a few weeks into the season, you should wait and maybe bump it around late July when teams might start to lfp for next season. GL

While it is true that some players learn more in esea than in open it isn't a law by any means. Scrimming/demo reviews/practicing aim/playing with like minded players is what makes you better. Not paying money, and you can definitely do all those things in ugc. Just because many players only scrim a couple times a week in ugc doesn't mean teams can't learn a huge amount if they put in the same time that many open teams do.
